FUNNY GIRL - cinemas  Oct 25 2018, 06:15:27 PM

It didn't seem to be showing very widely  Only offered at one theater in the DC area.  Hopefully it will come around again or to BroadwayHD / Netflix / PBS before too long.

BEETLEJUICE - Pre-Broadway Tryout in DC  Oct 24 2018, 03:57:52 PM

Book needs to be funnier, but I guess that's what they're workshopping. Some jokes fell completely flat with no reaction. Beetlejuice as a character is very unevenly written. It's not Alex Brightman's fault, it's the material. Sometimes, the humor was great (One of my biggest laughs was the "Fuck Brigadoon" moment), but more often than not, it fell flat for me. It's like they're trying to figure out what type of humor to imitate, so they're

FAR from sold out on Sunday evening. We had 3 orchestra seats on the aisle row N...and the entire rest of the row was empty. We had a member of the creative team s

BEETLEJUICE - Pre-Broadway Tryout in DC  Oct 22 2018, 04:23:07 PM
If you are looking to purchase tickets, there are quite a few entrances / exits made thru the orchestra and most (but not all) are in the house right aisle...and there were LOTS of great seats still available.

Always wonder why this disappears sometimes.  Oct 17 2018, 04:27:32 PM

A recorded version or the original Jamie cast is showing is US theatres in November.  Maybe catch it and see one of the others? https://www.jamieincinemas.com/

Anastasia or Beetlejuice with 13 year old boy?  Oct 17 2018, 11:46:00 AM

It's a little hard to say since very few people have actually seen Beetlejuice at this point.  However, seeing shows at the Kennedy Center Opera House and the National Theatre are very different experiences.  The Kennedy Center and Opera House are very large scale and grand; with seating for 2,300.  The National feels much more like a Broadway house with a more intimate setting of 1,600.

I often find the sound at the Kennedy Center to be quite problematic with

Which shows will soon be available for licensing?  Oct 15 2018, 11:40:35 AM

Look around at what regional professional theatres are producing this year.  Generally, amateur rights are soon to follow or have recently been released:

Holiday Inn, Matilda, Once, Jersey Boys, On Your Feet, Tuck Everlasting, American Psycho,  Gentlemen's Guide to Love and Murder, Freaky Friday, Mama Mia, American In Paris

To be fair, Arena Stage has less tickets to sell and Anything Goes is better sell for the older crowds who tend to go see shows. Beetle juices marketing has been about how raunchy it is. I feel like that may scare a lot of people away

Agreed that

Tickets also showed up today on TodayTix.  Not sure if there is a TON of savings after service fees....but it might be worth a check.  My tickets aren't until the 21st.  crying

Anthony Ramos To Play Usnavi in in the heights movie  Oct 10 2018, 03:50:28 PM

Dave to broadway?  Sep 28 2018, 04:46:15 PM

I liked it quite a bit in DC.  The second act needed a good bit of work, but it was very funny and had some very nice moments....without being TOO on the nose in today's political environment.  In particular I liked Drew Gehling's portrayal of the title character.  The buzz was good...but not great.  The Washington Post didn't give it a rave.

That same performance has right orchestra row T seats 16 and 18 for the same price.  I'd rather be a few rows further back than all the way to the side.

Will HADESTOWN end up like THE GREAT COMET??  Sep 13 2018, 10:04:09 AM

I haven't seen Hadestown, but have listened to the cast recording and saw Comet. I found the direction from Chavkin to be exceptional....but the music, not so much.   I think the music of Hadestown is MUCH more approachable for the general theatre-going public than Comet.
