RippedMan said: "What was altered with Angels? I actually never saw Part 2 on Broadway, so curious if they did the ending the same way."

The stage at the National is much wider and deeper, resulting in some altered design elements and some tricky backstage choreography for entrances/exits. (Specifically, they couldn’t pull the set from the top of part 2 all the way back and offstage on Broadway in the way they did in London.)

NETWORK  Aug 4 2018, 06:16:47 PM
There is definitely interest in making this happen, but I highly doubt it’ll happen in a Broadway house. The production at the National was enormous. Although they managed to pull off the staging of Angels with some staging alterations, so who knows.

HEAD OVER HEELS Reviews  Jul 27 2018, 11:34:45 AM
I’m happy that Brantley apologized. But, again... how did it even make it to print?

HEAD OVER HEELS Reviews  Jul 27 2018, 09:31:24 AM
Oh, give it a rest, behindthescenes. Trust me, we’re not losing sleep over it. And if the alternative to the perceived finger pointing and shaming of critics is to just blindly let people keep being ignorant and dismissive, I’m happy to live on the other side of the line, frankly. The opposite of being un-PC isn’t nearly as stifling as you seem to think. It’s actually quite liberating. Which seems to be one of the points of Head Over Heels, funnily enough.

HEAD OVER HEELS Reviews  Jul 27 2018, 08:33:55 AM
Except the difference, Whizzer, is that Peppermint IS trans and uses they/them pronouns and Brantley uses the phrase “he finds himself strangely drawn to her... I mean them” as an off-handed slight at what he considers to be the fad of gender non-binary pronouns. Right after he asserts that the word binary itself is perhaps the most overused word of the century.

I, myself, don’t fully understand the need to further subcategorize the human experience, but I would also never deliberately

HEAD OVER HEELS Reviews  Jul 27 2018, 12:11:53 AM
I was immediately struck by that comment Brantley made about Peppermint’s use of “they/them” pronouns. Just because he doesn’t understand the purpose of it, or the importance to so many of a correct binary identification, doesn’t mean he should use it as a factor against the show. It’s not just some “flavor of the week” topicality issue as he seems to imply twice in that review. And his comments about it show his age and irrelevance more than most of the other comments he’s made about shows in t

Look I'm all for the "this was unnecessary" bandwagon and agree

THE DAMNED  Jul 21 2018, 10:57:01 PM
This was my favorite van Hove production to date and - as someone above me noted - it makes me incredibly excited to see how he explores West Side Story.

The way he uses theatrical and cinematic techniques to highlight the violent, selfish, dark impulses of the world of this piece is endlessly inventive and illuminating. I didn’t even need to read the subtitles most of the time, the storytelling is so clear. It is all about the mood and atmosphere. The remarkable group of actors and fil

haterobics said: "If this is the worst you've seen, you're living a pretty charmed life. "

We’re feeling high and mighty today, huh? Isn’t it possible that your taste is different than theirs? One man’s “Get me out of here” can just as easily be someone else’s “so bad, it’s good.”

THIS AIN'T NO DISCO thread  Jul 20 2018, 11:26:10 AM
I would absolutely rank this as one of the worst things I’ve ever seen. And I, too, walked out at intermission. I don’t regret it one bit. Those actors are talented and they deserve much better. People have different tastes. I strongly disliked War Paint, but even that didn’t compel me to run for the hills like this did.

OFFICAL JVOSK BROADWAY THREAD  Jul 18 2018, 07:05:15 PM
I haven’t seen her, but I know many who have and they unanimously agree she is the best Elphaba to come along in quite some time. Maybe ever. Her voice is stellar and she appears to be very humbled and grateful for such a monumental opportunity. I’m looking forward to seeing her in the role in a way I haven’t been since maybe Shoshana.

Diana Rigg Leaving My Fair Lady  Jul 18 2018, 07:02:16 PM
I think it’s pretty obvious, given the timeline of events, that Rigg is leaving over backstage drama. Whether that drama was the news of Lauren Ambrose having an alternate or something else or something else, I don’t know. But I have never heard of someone having a 6-month contract that didn’t announce it at the outset.

Diana Rigg was forced into a situation where she could have diverted the drama or given into it. She chose to give in, and I find that incredibly distasteful. Her legacy

Amanda Dehnert's ANNIE  Jul 16 2018, 10:08:49 PM
How is it masturbatory? If you’ve ever seen a production by Amanda Dehnert, you know how thrilling it is. In particular, her Fantasticks and Edwin Drood (both at Trinity) are very, very strong highlights of my theatregoing. She loves a high concept, yes, but she deploys it expertly.

Hey, fellow native Rhode Islander! Yes, they did use it to keep score between the Sharks and Jets.

Amanda Dehnert's ANNIE  Jul 16 2018, 11:34:44 AM

It’s not like this was done at a community theater. It was produced at Trinity Repertory Company in Providence, RI. It’s a theater I grew up attending. The fare they produce is very adult and very conceptual most of the time. They chose to do Annie not to appeal to the community of children, but to examine an American work in a new light as they do with every musical or play (they also famously mounted West Side Story with no set and a floor to ceiling chalkboard surface to c

BREAKING: Ivo van Hove Will Direct Broadway Revival of WEST SIDE STORY  Jul 12 2018, 04:09:16 PM
Anne Teresa de Keersmaeker’s choreography is close enough to Robbins’s style that it will match the intensity of the music, but contemporary enough to shake up our expectations. Very into the prospect of her collaboration.

BREAKING: Ivo van Hove Will Direct Broadway Revival of WEST SIDE STORY  Jul 12 2018, 01:55:50 PM
You guys can skip this, keep your memories of the original production, and leave the tickets for the rest of us who actually want their revivals to REVIVE the classics, not just keep them on life support forever. I haven’t always been the biggest fan of van Hove’s approach to classic American texts, but he is certainly never a safe choice.
