What is still to be announced for 2018-19 season ?  Oct 25 2018, 05:32:22 PM

I'm still scratching my head at everyone who assumes that the Longacre will be available because The Prom is going to bomb. It's been open for a mere two (three?) previews, and has gotten overwhelmingly positive unofficial buzz so far. I get that there's no celeb attached, but what on earth am I missing that so many people have it closing so fast? Personally I can't wait to see it. I really, really hope that it proves everyone wrong.

FWIW, no one outside

Trio Song 1 Guy & 2 Girls  Oct 23 2018, 04:08:12 PM

"I've Decided to Marry You" from Gentleman's Guide
"A Step Too Far" from Aida

Way too early 2019 tony host prediction thread!  Oct 18 2018, 05:23:48 PM

OKBroadwayFan said: "It would be interesting to see how many viewers watched an award show via DVR or other service after the live event?"

I don't even think it's a DVR thing - almost everyone I know has cut cable altogether. CBS All Access exists, but I'm not sure how popular it is... and I don't know how many people would pay for the whole show on iTunes. Definitely a problem for lots of broadcast programming, not just the Tonys.

2019 Tony Rulings Round 1  Oct 18 2018, 03:16:12 PM

IdinaBellFoster said: "A little surprised they left everyone in HEAD OVER HEELS featured. I just hope we don't end up with 4 Best Actress in a Musical nominees this year."

We might! There's not a ton of eligibility...
Kelli O'Hara
Samantha Barks
Christiani Pitts
Probably Sophia Ann Caruso for Beetlejuice, unless they consider her Featured
The Chers, depending on how they rule
The Prom actress/es depending on how they rule

Patti's At It Again!  Oct 12 2018, 04:16:37 PM

I will always 100% support her right to say what she wants, and express herself in any way she sees fit. She shouldn't be censored. And I applaud her candor.

I will also say that I (like everyone else on this board) have the same human right to say what I feel, which is that I can't stand her or her ego. I couldn't care less how much talent someone has - I'm never going to be a fan of someone who's unapologetically temperamental and petty and seems to who

Movie musicals surprised dont have stage addptions  Oct 12 2018, 03:56:14 PM

It's not exactly a movie musical, but in terms of structure, I'm surprised that Girls Just Want to Have Fun hasn't been made into a stage musical. It's begging to be one!

Etiquette of seat-taking...?  Oct 10 2018, 12:14:16 PM

I think hanging a coat on the back of a seat is the most egregious no-no of these (likewise, keeping it on your lap but letting the sleeves fall into the laps of the people to the right and left of you)... but in terms of having to shuffle into a row, nothing really bothers me unless someone's going out of their way to be a jerk. I always stand in my place with the seat up to let people pass, but as a 5'4" woman will sometimes just move my knees to the side if the person trying t

Girl From The North Country - Public Theater?  Oct 1 2018, 08:56:41 PM

CT2NYC said: "I only listened to the cast recording brieflybefore it was removed from Spotify, but, from what I heard, Shirley Henderson's and Sheila Atim's voices are far more distinctive and emotionally resonant than Mare Winningham's and Kimber Sprawl's. On the album, their songs are gut punches, and I was hoping for the same impact in this production, but I didn't feel it nearly as much. Do you agree?"

I sort of agree, much as I wish

Musicals with longest time-spans?  Oct 1 2018, 03:57:38 PM

Evita fits this pretty well.

Also, if we're talking about massive time-spanning from an opener/closer like Aida, the recent Fiddler revival used the same tactic.

Girl From The North Country - Public Theater?  Oct 1 2018, 03:48:40 PM

I saw this on Thursday and have such mixed feelings! I have been listening to the London cast recording for a month and totally loving it... but I think it backfired by creating some ideas in my head that of course never panned out*, and it created a letdown for me with the actual show. I don't know... I think I really enjoyed it on paper, but in reality I don't know that I'm smart enough to really get what they were doing. Some of the plot points seemed to disappear alt

Ken Davenport Appreciation Thread  Oct 1 2018, 11:44:51 AM

qolbinau said: "But seriously. Where did the money come from? It doesn’t appear out of thin air. If Ken was actually trying to recover funds forhis investors then he was doing his job. He is damned if he does and damned if he doesn’t apparently - and it’s mostly doesn’t. Maybe this is a rare example of good producing on his part."

I think the problem was the blatant sneakiness. You can't give a sob story in the text of the Kickst

what do foreigners need to know about broadway  Sep 25 2018, 05:57:49 PM

Gizmo6 said: "Breakfast is shocking, coming from a UK/Irish background, they don't do sausage or bacon. Breakfast seems more sweet based. I did have a delicious omelette in a diner near Macy's."

FWIW, sausage and bacon are both really common American breakfast foods. I think it's probably just a coincidence of where you went that those weren't choices.

Would Jesse Eisenberg be a big enough name for a Parade Revival?  Sep 25 2018, 04:46:26 PM

rattleNwoolypenguin said: "It could always come back smaller at Roundabout for limited run or something."

I could see this happening. Enough of a show so that Broadway fans can get their fix (bonus if someone like Jake Gyllenhaal is in it to sell tickets to the unsuspecting general public), but no expectations of trying to stay open for a long run.

I mean, if they'll bring back Robber Bridegroom, I could see them bringing back Parade.

Telecharge?  Sep 17 2018, 12:01:43 PM

It's been doing that for all four of the shows I'm searching right now, but yeah... if you wait long enough (realllllly long) it'll show up. INCREDIBLY annoying!

(Phone is an option, but I prefer to search a bunch of dates online and find the best availability, then go to the box office to buy in person.)

Edit: FWIW, it seems to be fixed!

Not booked anything but another what should I see Thread  Sep 17 2018, 10:53:12 AM

I would also consider To Kill a Mockingbird... and maybe King Kong, depending on reviews. (I feel like that show is either going to be incredible or a trainwreck... obviously hoping for the former.)

For non-theatre stuff - take a food tour! There are some great pizza tours, as well as tasting tours of various ethnic neighborhoods. It's a nice way to see different parts of the city, especially if you'll be in Times Square a lot seeing shows.

To Kill a Mockingbird discount code  Sep 15 2018, 08:41:21 PM

I feel like I get discount code mailers for every show, but don't think I've seen one for To Kill a Mockingbird, unless I missed it. ...Should I assume there are no discounts?
