Marin Mazzie Has Passed Away  Sep 13 2018, 07:12:11 PM

This news has really floored me and I've been in tears..This type of cancer has taken so many women, my cousin included. She was RN and on her way to MD; she opened, directed and maintained an AIDS/HIV clinic and hospice care home in Florida. Her death was a great loss to us and those she helped. I can't help but get mixed emotions again when I think of the research that can and should be done..

Losing Marin is such a tragedy; and to know now she continued to perform is un

What Did You Miss? Christopher & Utomi at KC Hamilton  Aug 27 2018, 06:15:51 PM

We got a chance to see "Hamilton" again last night at the Kennedy Center and if you're anywhere near Washington you should run to see Nicholas Christopher's Aaron Burr, (and last night we saw an alternate Hamilton Edred Utomi, who is really just as strikingly good as LMM). It almost seems as if Christopher's is more menacing and deep in tone in his portrayal of Burr. I love Leslie Odom but Christopher should be on Broadway. (Even his dancing is tremendous; in

Anastasia/Frozen/SpongeBob  Aug 15 2018, 03:50:05 PM

IMO,

- While the cast is terrific, Anastasia really suffers from an interminable first act; way too heavy...but once you get to "Paris" it's much better. I haven't seen Vicki Lewis but she should be a blast in that role. Caroline O'Connor and JB really save this/that show...

- Frozen is another victim of "C--Ursula"; way overblown, tries too hard to be everything for everybody but it's way too much. Nice puppets but special effects, etc.

Collins / Evans  Aug 9 2018, 03:07:49 PM

Well, this sure looks like it is/was a camp fest; this is a 10 minute clip from Boston. (About 3 minutes of audio are edited out I guess due to music rights) It's pretty easy to see that Joan is definitely the "professional actor" on stage...

https://youtu.be/0xqzor2jnuQ

I think Joan Collins is still infinitely watchable in about almost anything. She can go from stage, tv, movies; whether it's the fluffy campy things l

Cher, Reba and Others For 2018 Kennedy Center Honors  Jul 25 2018, 08:02:39 PM

Just a couple of notes....

Yes, it is disappointing that true and deserving honorees like Doris Day and Carol Channing

(these 2 omissions alone with CC's life and DD's life, going from a big band jazz singer to rival Ella, and then what she went on to do...not fair at all) and Doris is not a "recluse"; she works ardently for Animal Rights and does appear at events in Carmel...

...are still withdrawn b/c they can't or won't ac

Cher, Reba and Others For 2018 Kennedy Center Honors  Jul 25 2018, 12:32:21 PM

Very nice choices for the most part...Yay for Cher, but yeah, where's Liza? Betty White?

and as a voice of anarchy ??? Will Cher or LMM, et al accept from Rump??

"'FOSSE/VERDON' COMING TO FX"  Jul 24 2018, 06:43:28 PM

I think Tag is right; who besides us? But that's what makes me wonder about how popular shows like "RuPaul" are and can be...I thought the Versace was very good, (especially Judith Light!) and the POSE show with Billy Porter...but...I don't and won't watch us become "car crash" tv...it's like honey boo-boo or  the a&e (A & E ..go figure ??)   crap tv. When does it become "are they laughing at us or "with" us or just &qu

Mamma Mia-- CHER we go again!!!  Jul 24 2018, 05:50:16 PM

Say what you will about MM2 and its' flaws, what I can say (proudly)...

..with one of ABBA's best composed anthems, "FERNANDO", CHER has delivered a sincere performance and a truly needed KISS on the lips of "GAY HEAVEN", that hopefully will last for the next couple of generations. WE WILL NEED IT!

Barry Humphries, creator of Dame Edna, calls transgenderism 'a fashion' and says he's 'grateful to Trump'  Jul 21 2018, 06:14:20 PM

You guys are being way too hard on BH and if you've read the entire article you may have been more informed than the headline. He raises a lot of valid points, expressing both points of view on most of the topics, again stating it's not his job to decide. Do I agree with everything ? No, but he does bring valid points to the discussion.

As for his interest in pre-War and German/Nazi treatment of Berlin and wartime cabaret, that in itself could be and is a topic many music a

Hello Dolly tour  Jul 15 2018, 05:14:56 PM

It's not like I won't be going to more than one performance, and/or having friends working on the show, but we're anxious to know the supporting cast, etc.. One ad I saw said, "Everyone from our cast and crew at the Schubert will continue on to the national tour"! (i'm sure that will be news to maybe, Donna Murphy or Local #1 -  I.A.T.S.E .

I also want the Harmonia Gardens staircase AND the passerelle but I won't hold my bre

Thank God the Gypsy Robe is now the legacy Robe  Jul 14 2018, 04:07:13 PM

I agree with K again, where does it stop and start and stop??? An historic theater company in Baltimore is the 50 + years old Young Vic(torian) company; performing Gilbert and Sullivan with 1 or 2 productions each year. They are "still trying" to perform "The Mikado" this year. They are being bombarded with Asian/American criticisms and boycotting...In the 2nd act showstopper from "Anything Goes" Evelyn's big song is the "Gypsy In Me"...I just

Experiences With Condescending Theatre Goers  Jul 10 2018, 07:19:31 AM
If the word “condescending” applies when I make a remark (to my husband) that “NO Carousel only has one horse”, then I guess I’m guilty of that...but it is far more memorable and enjoyable when “kinder and gentler theater goers are by your side”just s few examples; we went to see SITPWG with Jake & Annaleigh, I had just had foot/leg surgery, I was in a monstrosity of a cam boot; my husband was trying to help me get settled and then, Ryan Reynolds & wife, stood, smiled and offered some aisle assi

Was Betty Buckley banned from Broadway?  Jul 9 2018, 06:30:25 PM

I guess that since I'm a younger person, and going off memory of video clips and education, and since BB performed "Over You" from "Tender Mercies" at the Academy Awards, (that she sang in the film)...where it was nominated for Best Original Song, I also thought she was one of the songwriters (Hart and Roberts); so my bad! It's still a testament to her devotion to the arts, and humanity that there just aren't many performers as versatile and committed. She

Was Betty Buckley banned from Broadway?  Jul 9 2018, 10:46:58 AM

Just the fact that I'm posting to this thread is embarrassing to myself and laughable. BB is a woman of talent, artistry, conviction, dedication, story, song, social conscience... (so of course, she has to be a b*tch)

I (and many more) would kill to have any of the "careers" that Betty has in her repertoire. I have never seen her give a bad performance. Be it stage, tv or screen, Oz, Getting On (on HBO...she is brilliant), Tender Mercies, Remember WENN, Sunset Blvd, 1776,

SPONGEBOB SQUAREPANTS closing Sept.16  Jul 9 2018, 10:19:32 AM

I'm really sad to see this show close too, (bad memories of timing and business "Great Comet" We just got tix again.

I'm hoping Ethan will go back to doing the Sunday matinees since the closing notice is real now...we can do without the snark too; Tina Landau and this cast created a wonderful world at the Palace. Maybe they will go "FATHOMS (Events) Below..Fathoms Below." and film it for

BANDSTAND! - Fathom Events June 25th-28th  Jul 2 2018, 09:07:15 PM

It's nice to see there are other fans of (not only) Corey Cott, but his hairy chest ! Normally, we have to shave all the hair from certain places for certain roles. I wonder if, when "Bandstand" tours if one of the requirements for "Donny" will be "must have hairy chest"!! Ha-a! At least we can enjoy his for now!

BANDSTAND! - Fathom Events June 25th-28th  Jul 2 2018, 10:38:12 AM

I just loved the show, but I agree that the sound mix was REALLY off; the sound was muted and almost foggy at times. The performances are totally excellent and I'm really sorry I didn't get to see this on stage. The horns and big band sounds should be so crisp and clear and sometimes it was, but not all the way through. I also think the editing of the choreography could have been much MUCH better. What's wrong with showing a whole complete dance from the entire stage view?

I

BANDSTAND! - Fathom Events June 25th-28th  Jun 28 2018, 11:07:45 AM

I forgot to mention that the theater where I'm going, well, it's completely sold out except for wheelchair and companion seats. That's great! So check ahead or buy online. The Regal and AMC sites let you reserve seats but not from Fandango.
