King Kong the Musical  Aug 5 2018, 08:22:38 PM

I have been hoping for a Broadway production of this musical.

Can't wait.

First-ever visit to the Lincoln Center  Aug 5 2018, 09:31:53 AM
I second checking out the library. Not sure when theNext big exhibit opens bit they always have some type of exhibit going. I have seen many of them. Also, the MET store is fun to walk through. It is to the right of the main entrance to the MET opera house. And sit by the foundation and just take the complex in!

Will Julie Andrews or Maggie Smith ever return to the stage?  Aug 4 2018, 12:11:58 PM
I am assuming Andrews now could not do 8 shows a week after that surgery.

NHow Feasible is a Caroline, or Change Transfer??  Aug 2 2018, 10:20:02 PM
From what i have seen of the London production, I may skip it if it transfers. It looks a bit "flashy" to me. I saw it on Broadway and think i just want to remember the original.

I walked out of the theater just devastated at how good this masterpiece is. I was also exited because i to felt it was taking musical theater in a news direction. It does as my favorite musical along with Sweeney.

But who knows...I may not be able to resist if it transfers.

Favourite post- theatre drink spots?  Jul 29 2018, 10:07:02 AM

Midtown West/Hell's Kitchen- Hourglass Tavern (next to the Brooks Atkinson, lots of Broadway sightings, if that's your thing), B Side & B Squared (sister restaurants; brick oven individual pizza)

Is there another Hourglass Tavern? I was going to suggest the the Bettibar on the 2nd and 3rd flo

I also meant to add Sardi's. If the second floor is open, looking out over 44th is really cool. With Dolly at the Shubert I am sure it is extra special.

"There's also a small gay bar on 9th ave called DBL that my friend's and I go to after shows. $5 drinks and good music."

DBL is on 10th and 47th on the corner.

My go to is HURLEY'S on 48th across from the Walter Kerr.

For a gay bar with food I hop the 1 down to Christopher and go to JULIUS. Decent drink prices and delicious burgers among other things.

Excellent play. Saw it at the Lortel and plan to see it again when it returns.

I had a long winded response to all of this but I will just say that I have just been shaking my head over the fact that 2 critics have had to publicly apologize over things in a review that were clearly not meant to shame or put down certain people.

This really needs to stop when it is not warranted.

WAITING FOR GIOVANNI at the Flea  Jul 22 2018, 01:38:34 AM
Saw this last night. It was high on my list as I have been waiting for a play about gay black men (we have 2 playing now!) And especially because it is about James Baldwin.

A bit slow in parts during the first act. The book could use a bit of trimming and tightening up but all in all it was a great evening of theatre.

Done on a practically bare stage with a few props amd some nice lighting amd music.

Joy Sudduth as Lorraine Hansberry was wonderful as was Neil Dawson as

re: Bad usher/ theatre employee stories?  Jul 20 2018, 03:01:09 PM

romanov said: "Years ago in the middle of the first act of Bent I became suddenly ill; and people, I mean ILL. As I was trying to leave as quietly and unobstrusively as possible, I got to the lobby door and a theatre employee literally lunged forward and tried to physically stop me from leaving. I shook him off and promptly threw up in Shubert Alley."

When was there a production of  BENT off of Shubert Alley? I saw it with Richard Gere over on 41st
