Way Too Early 2019 Tony Predictions thread  Mar 12 2019, 12:17:48 PM
In my mind there's no way we're not getting two revival categories since a quick look at Wikipedia tells me that it hasn't happened since 1993 and since then there have been two seasons with only two musical revivals (2002 and 2011).

I'm also wondering about the costumes. I haven't seen the show yet but I thought I heard that they were at least slightly redesigned? And technically T. S. Eliot won two Tony's for Cats and that material wasn't new so maybe it's just a consideration for sc

Princess Diana Musical, DIANA, Set for World Premiere at La Jolla Playhouse  Mar 4 2019, 11:04:01 PM
Just got tickets for tomorrow, and I'm strangely excited to see this, even if it is a hot mess, so I'll report back on that. I believe it opened on Saturday and there's a review from the San Diego Tribune here but it's the only one I could find: https://www.sandiegouniontribune.com/entertainment/theater/sd-me-review-playhouse-20190304-story.html

CENTER THEATER GROUP - Worst Season Ever?  Mar 2 2019, 04:50:08 PM

I was actually shocked that Band's Visit didn't end up at the Ahmanson, as I think it'll just get swallowed up by the Dolby, but I guess they wanted to sell more tickets.  I do wonder whether that last slot is going to be another touring show like Jesus Christ Superstar or Bandstand, or if it would be another pre-Broadway tryout kind of show.  Does Matthew Bourne have some sort of partnership with CTG?  I think that's three seasons in a row that they've had

Trademarks of Certain Producers  Mar 1 2019, 03:05:38 PM

With the Scott Rudin/Mockingbird rights issue, it seems like people aren't all that surprised at this kind of move being pulled by Scott Rudin.  But I was wondering, what are other specific trademarks of a particular producer?  Like if I'm going into a show produced by X, are there any expectations I should have because of that?

I've read some of the other threads on Ken Davenport and Scott Rudin as well, but I was wondering if there was

Way Too Early 2019 Tony Predictions thread  Feb 28 2019, 10:17:14 PM
iirc they did try that category one year but not enough people got nominated so then they got rid of it

There might be more to it but that's just what I remember right now, and I would agree that while I would want these people to be recognized, there isn't always a consistent set of replacements every year good enough to warrant another award.

The Other Josh Cohen  Feb 26 2019, 01:16:20 AM

Ethel, I had the same feeling after watching the clip and I waffled back and forth on whether or not to watch it a lot, but I ultimately did since the word of mouth was so good, and even if I didn't like it, the ticket prices were low enough that I could justify spending the money to at least give it a shot.

But I'm really glad I saw it, as it really is just a charming show that leaves you smiling.  I had also listened to the first song on the cast recording, and it

rush tickets  Feb 20 2019, 10:22:47 PM

It's not super up to date, but there's a fairly recent thread here that you can try posting a bump in:

Also, it might help to retitle your post to specifically mention Come From Away :)

Repeat Visits To Shows  Feb 20 2019, 09:17:21 PM

I don't think there's that much more to say on the "people can spend money on whatever they want" front, but I think the question of "is it fair" regarding rush/lottery is more interesting.  I think it's better for the business for as many different people to see a show as possible, so that word of mouth can spread and it can reach more people (assuming it's a good show), rush lines and lotteries have always been a gamed system anyway.  Rush basic

Frozen 2 teaser thoughts  Feb 13 2019, 04:44:02 PM

I thought I was getting a little burnt-out by Frozen with how quickly they were coming out with new material between the original movie, the shorts (which I haven't actually seen), and the Broadway show, but I have to say, this teaser has me really intrigued and I can't wait to see what they have in store.  Definitely a very exciting trailer overall imo

That being said, I wonder if there's material in the shorts that will be referenced in the sequel.

Wicked Movie Cast (rumors, dreamcasts, etc.)  Feb 8 2019, 08:02:18 PM

I would love to see Dove as Glinda too.My concern for Gaga is that she would look too old for being a college student. And what about Carol Burnett as Morrible?

All I really want is a actress with a disability to play Nessa. Ali Stroker, perhaps?

tbh I'm not sure if I would cons

Broadway to Off-Broadway Awards  Feb 6 2019, 03:56:25 PM

Not sure if this has really come up all that much, but is it possible for off-Broadway shows to win awards if they're a remounting of a Broadway show?  I'm mostly thinking things like Avenue Q and Jersey Boys and the forthcoming Play that Goes Wrong.  Would they be considered in the off-Broadway awards season since they're technically "new"?

I know the Drama Desks only allow one-time eligibility but I'm not too familiar with other off-Broadway awards

SOFT POWER at the Public  Feb 5 2019, 04:50:25 PM

GeorgeandDot said: "I heard this was messy brilliance. Hopefully, they're able to pull it together into something coherent."

That honestly sounds like the best way to describe it.  I saw it at the Ahmanson and it definitely needed some work but it was so out there that I would still be willing to see it in that form many more times just for the sheer wtf moments it generated.

Though I do wonder how much it changed between the LA and SF productions, no

2019-2020 Touring Season  Feb 5 2019, 12:04:07 PM
Just kidding I forgot about Hamilton in March for the Pantages. And I suppose DEH is coming back to the Ahmanson at some point as well.

2019-2020 Touring Season  Feb 5 2019, 11:56:27 AM

Mike Barrett said: "Is Torch Song even happening? Someone mentioned they met a cast member who said Minneapolis was defifnetley a stop and it wasn't announced there. Im still hopeful as well but not going to get my hopes up on it. Could they potentially get the Cursed Child after San Francisco? Just speculating but the Ahmanson may also get Bandstand and The Drowsy Chaperone tours."

I know it doesn't necessarily mean anythings set in stone but just wanted to

The Other Josh Cohen -- General Rush?  Jan 19 2019, 10:01:52 PM

I rushed early in December and got two fantastic seats.  Tickets were $29 each and there was no line at all when the box office opened at noon.

Merrily We Roll Along Previews (2019)  Jan 11 2019, 11:54:11 PM

I'm taking a friend to see it in April.  She goes to a fair amount of musical theater but has almost no knowledge of Merrily--is the backwards storyline something I should tell her about beforehand, or something to let her figure out for herself?

Looking forward to seeing what reactions this production gets, especially with the Fiasco company.

Off-Broadway show for my friend and I?  Jan 2 2019, 07:57:42 PM

I'd have to recommend The Other Josh Cohen in the Westside Theatre!  It's a really charming show about an ordinary guy who runs into some less-than-ordinary circumstances, and it's overall just really uplifting.  Also one of those musicals where the musicians are the actors, but they're absolutely fabulous in everything they do.  It's $29 rush or $25 student rush (cash only, 1 per ID) day of, and when I rushed at the beginning of December I just sh
