KING LEAR Moving to the Cort  Oct 25 2018, 06:54:40 PM
Huh. I have rear mezz seats at the Golden. Will be disappointed if I end up in the rear balcony of the Cort. Time will tell!

THE PROM Previews  Oct 23 2018, 10:21:28 PM
Why are people out to get this show? It sounds totally charming, and considering how horrible the season of musicals has been so far, I’m trying to remain hopeful that this one will be a charmer.

What is still to be announced for 2018-19 season ?  Oct 22 2018, 10:24:29 PM
My hunch is that the Lunt-Fontanne becomes available before the Broadhurst, Sondheim, or Brooks Atkinson.

Agreed that most likely, North Country goes to the Kerr, Clinton to Circle in the Square, and Burn This to the Hudson. And that Hadestown is likely to come in this season. Maybe Jagged Little Pill. But it doesn’t seem like those producers are rushing it, which is encouraging.

Torch Song is a commercial production, right? So, I'm guessing that it doesn't have the leeway ofthe other Second Stage/Roundabout/Lincoln Center shows.

Correct. The Broadway revival is a commercial transfer of the 2nd Stage production, in a theatre that happens to be ow

It did one less performance than the prior week. Their preview schedule is a bit unusual--weeks range from 5-7 performances until opening.

KING KONG - BORING & Unnecessary Show!  Oct 18 2018, 11:57:08 PM
I don’t know folks...is the puppet even THAT impressive? Like...it’s kinda cool. And it’s face is impressively emotive. But I found some of its scenes pretty boring. And if anyone didn’t know he climbed the Empire State Building, would they be able to piece together that’s what he was climbing?

And if the puppet is boring, good lord, the rest of it... I would say it’s not as bad as Brooklyn the Musical because it’s just too boring to be that bad. And the spectacle is less impressive tha

Ain't Too Proud Officially Heading to Broadway  Oct 18 2018, 02:23:32 PM

Crowds were also dancing in the aisles at Summer, and a couple short months later, it's playing to 60% capacity. We've simply had too many jukebox musicals. Cher might work because she has a 50 year career behind her and is a PERSONALITY, but The Temptations...they&#

From what I hear, the estates involved refuse to let it be altered in any way. I believe there are exciting productions possible but that for as long as it'

Thank you, thank you, thank you, LightsOut. That helps calm my nerves enough to grab tickets. And I do so love Hunter’s work!

Well it’s good to hear the cast is having fun and the crowds (though sparse) are enjoying themselves!

Danny Burstein to Join MY FAIR LADY as Alfred Doolittle  Oct 16 2018, 07:05:45 PM
I didn’t like this production much when I saw it (no judgment on the people who loved it—different strokes), but I’ll be damned if I miss the chance to see Burstein and Benanti in it together in January. This is top notch recasting.

Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 10/14/18  Oct 16 2018, 05:08:36 PM

It's obviously been discussed ad nauseam how Head Over Heels is still running thanks to an angel investor, but my question is: does the cast find it dispiriting to have to go out and perform in front of half to two-thirds empty houses? Or are they just grateful to have the chance to keep doing the show? It's such an unusual position to be in--the show atrophying money that simply won't call it a day.

Lewiston/Clarkston  Oct 16 2018, 09:11:58 AM

Hey, LightsOut, can I ask a seating question? Is it GA? And do you still need to walk across the stage to get to  the restroom? I get claustrophobic and need to know where the exits are and hate feeling penned in (a constant problem, but I find my ways to deal with it). But any sense of how the space is set up compared to its usual format would be super awesome. I really want to see this, but I've been too nervous to grab tickets.

No Broadway Grosses? Is today a holiday?  Oct 15 2018, 04:52:43 PM

Well, it IS national cheese curd day...

:) In seriousness, though, I also get antsy when they're not up by now!

TORCH SONG (2018) Previews  Oct 10 2018, 09:57:48 PM
Glad to hear it’s landing so well. For those who saw it off Broadway and on, were there noticeable changes, or was it more just a sense, as mentioned, of the humor landing even better, etc?

Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 10/7/18  Oct 9 2018, 03:36:48 PM

Was someone out of Anastasia last week? It seems like an unusually high drop compared to everything else last week.

Astonishing numbers for Kong. I'm so curious to see how that goes from here. And Summer...eek.

Duh. Of course, The Color Purple. I thought I was missing something. In terms of plays, I’d love to see Topdog/Underdog, Take Me Out, and The Goat, or Who Is Sylvia come back, not even necessarily to Broadway—the Signature could do the first or last given their association with Park and Albee.

Am I right that the only Broadway show from 2000 or later to be revived on Broadway as of yet is Spring Awakening?

My fingers are crossed that the London production of Caroline, or Change will make it here. I could also really get behind a LaChiusa Wild Party revival.

Okay so when Will From North Country get the Tony!  Oct 2 2018, 09:04:32 AM

Also, I know the Times liked it, but it got some really negative reviews as well, and audience feedback seems mixed. So even if this does take the Kerr as has been rumored, I don't think it's a done deal even in this weak year for musicals. Tootsie's reviews out of Chicago felt stronger to me than North Country's, though of course it's a pretty apples to oranges comparison. I haven't seen either, so I truly have no skin in the game.

Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 9/30/18  Oct 1 2018, 03:26:24 PM

I'm curious about the running costs of Summer and Waitress. They both seem to be hovering at an amount where they for sure could be in the black, but it's hard to say. I wouldn't be surprised if either called it quits right after the holidays. Maybe Waitress will get a great star to come in who can boost it again. I'll keep fingers crossed for it as it's one of my favorite shows still running.

Head Over Heels continuing to stay open when it must be atr
