New Mary Poppins Returns Trailer!  Sep 17 2018, 12:54:07 PM
Julie Andrews will not be in this movie. Don’t get your hopes up.

With that said, MP is my favorite film of all time and I have been skeptical about this entire project.... but man oh man, was that trailer magical. This is going to be the movie event of the year. I cannot wait!

Laura Benanti to replace Lauren Ambrose in MY FAIR LADY  Aug 23 2018, 10:49:39 AM
How exciting!! I don’t know if I’ll be able to see this performance but I am going to try!!! If not, I really hope she gets filmed in the role!!!

Will Julie Andrews or Maggie Smith ever return to the stage?  Aug 4 2018, 10:32:57 PM

SomethingPeculiar said: "I wonder if Andrews was ever offered Sally in FOLLIES (in the 1985 concert version or in another revival)? She would have been 50 at the time of the live recording-- the perfect age, and still in good voice."

I think Julie is much more of a Phyllis than a Sally. She performed “Could I Leave You” in the original off-Broadway production of “Putting it Together.”

Although, I wish she could have record

Will Julie Andrews or Maggie Smith ever return to the stage?  Aug 4 2018, 10:30:02 PM
I think there’s a reason that Julie has only done movies and limited engagements on stage since then 1997 throat operation. I do not believe that her voice can handle 8 shows a week, even in a straight play.

Clearly she still has a soft spot for live theatre— she hosted the PBS mini-series on Broadway in 2005, she’s directed three stage musicals in recent years, and her Netflix series was all about the theatrical arts. I think if she could appear on Broadway again, she would, but her in

Worse British/American Accent  Jul 21 2018, 10:06:33 PM
I haven’t seen every Nicole Kidman performance, but those that I have, her native Australian accent always comes through at some point.

But accents to me are kind of like the icing on the cake. What matters is the substance of the goods inside and she generally gives very good performances regardless of her accent.

The Little Mermaid Live Action  Jun 18 2018, 02:24:57 PM

wonkit said: "Given the rather tepid box office for the live action BEAUTY AND THEBEAST, there may be a pause to re-think remaking animated Disney stuff in this way?"

Huh? The live-action Beauty and the Beast was ridiculously successful at the box office.

Anyway, I have heard the rumors about the change in setting and potential casting of POC and I think it is fantastic. I hope they follow through!

Do you think a public produced/invested Julie Andrews led A Little Night Music could work  Jun 8 2018, 10:46:12 AM
If Julie Andrews wanted to return to Broadway in an acting role, she would have done so by now.

She clearly still has a passion for live theatre. She hosted the PBS documentary series “Broadway: The American Musical.” She has directed 3 musicals for regional theatres in the US and for the Sydney Opera House. Just last year, she sang and performed in a children’s show about the performing arts for Netflix called “Julie’s Greenroom.”

My suspicion is that her voice was left far t

Good Idea/Bad Idea? Asking actors to sign my Graduation cap.  May 6 2018, 10:07:34 AM

dramamama611 said: "I'm not even a stage door/signature type person, and I think it's a sweet idea."

Me too. Not just that, but I never bothered to decorate any of my graduation caps, either.

But this is a great idea. Good luck!

So...is Broadway not dimming its lights for Jan Maxwell  Feb 16 2018, 10:07:02 PM
I emailed St Martin and tweeted the hashtag. I really thought they’d get this one right.

FOLLIES to return next season to RNT; cast recording in the works  Jan 31 2018, 03:42:41 AM
Lately, a lot of people have been suggesting this Benanti-O’Hara pairing for a “Follies” revival and I’m convinced that it will become everyone’s go-to answer for “Who should do ‘Follies’?” and then in 10 years Bart Sher will announce he’s reviving it at the LCT and everyone will get excited for the Benanti-O’Hara pairing, and then he’ll cast Lauren Ambrose in both roles.

(No shade to Lauren— am actually really excited to see her as Eliza, but it did feel like her name came out of left

Official Bernadette Peters in Hello, Dolly! performances thread  Jan 20 2018, 11:02:18 AM

I know I'm an isolated case, but Bernadette Peters is a much more exciting name to me than Bette Midler.

That is not a knock on Bette-- it's just that as 20-something musical theatre fan, Bette Midler is really just Winifred Sanderson to me. (And I should and want to experience more Bette-- any suggestions where to start besides the Dolly CD which I own?) OTOH, Bernadette and her voice were a fixture of my childhood in Cinderella, An

Is the NT Follies transferring to Broadway?  Dec 23 2017, 10:50:36 AM
To each their own. I think Julie's rendition of "Could I Leave You" from "Putting it Together" is one of the best there is-- I'm not sure what you mean about her voice, I think her 80's and 90's voice is perfect for the score, although if it's a reference to her accent-- is there any reason Phyllis couldn't have been a British immigrant? Honest question. As for Carol, I think she could have brought a heartbreaking honesty to Sally that would have been beautifully effective. This is a Sally who c

Is the NT Follies transferring to Broadway?  Dec 22 2017, 08:39:56 PM

bwayboy22 said: "I'd love to see a Kelli O'Hara-Laura Benanti revival in about 15 years helmed by Bart Sher at LCT"

Oh wow, I really want this to happen...

This just popped into my head, but what if Julie Andrews and Carol Burnett had done it in the 80's? With Julie as Phyllis and Carol as Sally?

Mamma Mia 2 Trailer!  Dec 21 2017, 09:46:36 AM
I don't think Meryl is dead. I think it's a fake-out. If you look at the scene in the chapel from the trailer with Seyfried and Streep, you'll notice the congregants are looking at both of them which would be off if it were a fantasy in Seyfried's head.

She's probably "traveling the world" and can't be reached, and then she steps off the helicopter after Cher.

Not feeling the flashbacks unless Cher is in those, too.

John Legend as Jesus for NBC's Superstar Live  Dec 19 2017, 08:39:11 AM
This is the biggest get since they snatched Carrie Underwood for TSOM.

Ranking Live TV Musicals, including A Christmas Story Live  Dec 18 2017, 08:59:52 PM
I actually did not watch A Christmas Story. I'm not a fan of the movie, and never bothered to listen to the musical-- always seemed like a cheap cash-in on the title.

Grease was by far the best. The Wiz and Hairspray were done well enough. The Sound of Music makes one appreciate Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer all the more. Peter Pan was a slog.

I'm wondering if this brief revival of live musicals is almost over? NBC hasn't found the success they wanted, and I'm convinced

Julie Andrews and the Tony  Dec 15 2017, 12:17:06 AM

Call_me_jorge said: "I know She can’t sing anymore, but I bet there’s some play that she can do that can get her the tony."

I sometimes wonder if her voice is so damaged that any role in a 8 performances per week show would be too much for her. That surgeon really ****ed up her instrument.
