THE PROM Previews  Oct 22 2018, 02:30:39 PM

To be fair...if that picture of the set is supposed to be the prom itself, it looks an awful lot like my high school prom's decorations. Of course, that was 1984... Willing to give Scott Pask the benefit of the doubt until I see it for myself.

Extra stuff  Oct 1 2018, 09:58:46 AM

Good to know! Didn't realize it was a raffle...

Still I was surprised at the relative lack of traffic at the DEH table throughout the day.

Extra stuff  Oct 1 2018, 09:25:22 AM

"Besides the odd item here and there, it was a lot of the same and the same seemed extremely overpriced and even as of a couple minutes ago, tables (I’m looking at you Head Over Heels & Pretty Woman) "

Yes... and asking about a possible bargain at both tables at around 6PM, I was greeted with two rather ...um... rude (another word I'd like to use, but I'm a gentleman) replies... A rather smug woman at the HOH booth gave me a "well, of course not! It

How long will Head Over Heels last?  Sep 8 2018, 07:41:15 AM

I also raved about HOH on my blog. (https://jkstheatrescene.blogspot.com/2018/08/review-head-over-heels.html) And I'm thrilled it has lasted this long, but its prospects are grim.

Shows that Seem Better on the Cast Recording than Seeing it Live  Sep 4 2018, 11:43:29 AM

Chess.  Though I enjoy the show, especially the recent Kennedy Center version. Based on the score you'd think it would be a world-wide phenomenon like Les Miz.

MFL Recording - Cover Reference?  Sep 2 2018, 12:37:56 PM

Can't help you with your actual question, but I believe the "heavenly creator" you referred to is really supposed to be George Bernard Shaw.

Anyone notice how BLUE Broadway is these days?  Aug 31 2018, 01:27:08 PM

Then there's the red/white/black invasion: Hello, Dolly, Gettin' the Band Back Together, Pretty Woman, Chicago, and School of Rock...

Unpopular Opinions  Aug 22 2018, 09:59:53 AM

I hated Dear Evan Hansen. He's a criminal playing the victim.  A common theme these days...

And while I appreciate Hamilton, I find it over staged and pretentious.  I get the casting thing, I really do. But it isn't really that revolutionary for any other reason.  That said, I'm looking forward to seeing it again. Now that i know what I'm dealing with maybe I can just enjoy it on its own merits.

The post office has priority mail boxes free of charge. If you want to ship it home, it will cost you about $19, but if you want to take it on the plane, this is what I do.

STRAIGHT WHITE MEN Previews  Jul 23 2018, 08:47:20 AM

What a relief, then, that it will only be around temporarily, no matter what the reviews are. If you think it sucks, it may even close early. If you think it is great, then you can lament that it's only a limited engagement. The best of both worlds.

What is the greatest 'Jerry Mitchell' Musical  Jul 22 2018, 08:29:07 PM

I'm going to have to go with The Will Rogers Follies... did you see him in that loin cloth dancing on that drum???

But seriously... Hairspray was his best choreography. And I know it gets a bad rap here but I really enjoyed Legally Blonde.

Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 7/15/18  Jul 16 2018, 04:30:11 PM

I'm not sure why people are always at the ready to predict doom for OOTI other than a hatred for its producer. In terms of Gross Potential, sure it could be better, but it's not disastrously low, either.  And while they are surely getting discounts, there is apparently a decent amount of audience for the show with 97% capacity. (And, yes, I know capacity has little to do with the economic numbers, blah blah blah. I'm just saying it's not like no one is seeing it.)

So, tell us about yourself.  Jun 20 2018, 08:45:27 AM

* Jeff here.

* 1st Broadway show: Mame revival in 1983. I was 17. I had done tons of theater in high school, but seeing that show changed my life forever. My first show, my first time seeing the great Angela Lansbury, my first flop. I've had a big place in my heart for both Ms. Lansbury and flops ever since.

* My job is so far from theater, the only thing it has in common with Broadway is that humans are involved.

Me neither. He’s an OK actor. His voice is strong, but he sings one song and not nearly as well as Kecia Lewis did IMHO. The rest of the time he fades into
