Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 8/5/18  Aug 6 2018, 04:01:45 PM

Oof. A rough week all around. Band's Visit dipping below 1 mil? OOTI looking...not great? Wonder why it was a less than stellar one.

:O  Jul 2 2018, 10:49:14 AM

Count me among those who hate the new design. It looks, frankly, so cheap. Also, though this shouldn't be a major consideration, it's worth mentioning that those who collect signatures at the stage door will have a much harder time, unless the cast is armed with metallic pens rather than the usual black. I'm not sure why they decided to switch to B&W immediately after a Tony win, but I think it was ill-advised. Oh well.

What Tony's Would The Band's Visit Have Won Last Year?  Jun 26 2018, 01:54:09 PM

I'm confused as to why no one thinks Band's Visit would stand a chance to beat DEH for best musical. TBV's reviews were more rapturous and not to mention more ROUNDLY stellar. Dear Evan Hansen was far more polarizing from a critical standpoint (many critics loved it including the big ones, but many took issue with it in more ways than one). Also, lest we forget Band's Visit actually beat DEH for best musical at that year's Lortel Awards. Obviously that is not a be all end

Log Cabin  Jun 19 2018, 06:05:48 PM

^I do applaud that casting decision! Not to be overlooked, certainly.

Log Cabin  Jun 19 2018, 12:15:41 PM

One of the worst plays I've seen in a long while. It's amazing that something trying so clearly to be topical can feel SO tired. It's trying to say everything about every big issue and actually ends up saying nothing at all. Seriously, I hated sitting through this and no offense intended but the cast is pretty roundly bad (though, to be fair, the material is far worse and I am sure is mostly to blame). I don't usually tell others to avoid something just based on my opinion, bu

The 2018 Best Actor in a Musical Race  May 31 2018, 12:06:59 PM

When it comes to acting categories, I could honestly see Band's Visit taking all three it's nominated for. Lenk, Stachel, and Shalhoub are each giving super strong performances in a year that's unusually non-uniform when it comes to popular opinion.

THE BAND's VISIT Reviews  May 22 2018, 01:12:53 PM

Nope, Kristen Sieh has not been out. And in fact, in the one scene where she has to walk from the dining room to the baby's crib, she clearly has a limp—which, to be honest, is a kind of amazing and totally in-place characteristic of that character that kinda needs no explanation.

Lauren FTW  May 21 2018, 02:49:18 PM

Taylor Louderman hasn't missed a performance of Mean Girls at all - DC or Broadway.

My mistake! But all performance records aside, Lenk winning this category is a total no-brainer. As lovely as Ambrose is, Lenk is extraordinary in a way that can't properly be put into words. She will deservedly see her work recognized on June 10. (And she should've been nominated for Indecent last year, too.)

Lauren FTW  May 21 2018, 01:22:37 PM

No shade intended in this comment, but I do believe Lenk is the only actor in this category to have not missed a single performance (oh, and her show has also been open the longest; way longer than the others, actually, with the exception of Hailey Kilgore).

Post Your Final 2018 Tony Nomination Predictions!  Apr 27 2018, 04:53:44 PM

I would be so much happier to see Kristen Sieh nominated from Band's Visit over Rachel Prather. (I predict neither will get the nod, for the record.)

2018 Drama Desk Nominations & Awards  Apr 27 2018, 10:15:52 AM

It is interesting that all three sure bets for the Tony leading actress (Lenk, Kilgore, Ambrose) were not nominated for the Drama Desk. I do believe if Lenk were eligible this year she of course would have been but, nevertheless, what's true is true. I think there is still little suspense as to who will take it Tony night (Lenk), but there is a bit more uncertainty than the last two years, which is exciting.

2018 Drama Desk Nominations & Awards  Apr 26 2018, 03:09:39 PM

^In the universe in which Band's Visit does not exist, best musical SpongeBob SquarePants would in fact be very possible in this strange season. But alas, THAT universe does not exist, so in that case nor does that possibility.

Band's Visit TKTS  Apr 26 2018, 03:04:35 PM

I just saw it on Tuesday with a TKTS-purchased ticket. I assume that it will remain on there until this Tuesday.

Can we use... any of these Drama Desk nominations as an indication of how things will go Tuesday? Because I kinda feel like absolutely not.

Carmen Cusack and Laura Bell Bundy Announced for REPRISE 2.0's Summer Season  Apr 25 2018, 03:13:18 PM

Carmen Cusack NEEDS to get back on the New York stage. Her absence is so sorely missed and these fickle audiences, I fear, have begun to forget her.

2018 Outer Critics Circle Nominations & Awards  Apr 24 2018, 04:00:37 PM

Betsy Wolfe as Elsa in FROZEN???  Apr 23 2018, 05:30:53 PM
I think Betsy would’ve been far superior. But I also think the entire show under its current direction is a sanitized bore.

Way too early 2018 Tony Predictions Thread  Apr 19 2018, 03:50:41 PM

Speaking for myself, I was wholly moved by Cariani's hilarious and ultimately very heartbreaking performance. The lullaby he sings to his son towards the end of the show, calling himself a loser and pointing out all his shortcomings, wrecked me. I also think his scenes with his wife are some of the show's best (THE best discrediting Lenk's scenes), and think it would be wonderful if Kristen Sieh received a nomination in the featured category—though that is highly unlikely, I

Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 4/15/18  Apr 17 2018, 05:31:17 PM

I predict a run for Band's Visit similar to Fun Home. It's a tiny show that maybe won't appeal to everyone, but it will win a ton of major Tonys including leading actress, score, direction, and the most important best musical. At which point, it will run for another solid year and a half or two, letting everyone in New York and outside of it that wants to see it see it. And yes, to echo others' sentiments, grosses will pick up gainfully after nominations and then more so

THE BAND's VISIT Reviews  Apr 16 2018, 03:34:03 PM
