There is a rumour on British Theatre.com that Tony winner Bette Midler will be taking "Hello, Dolly!" to the West End sometime in 2019. There is no theatre or time frame announced yet.
Ryan Murphy has nothing to do with this series, he now has a development deal with Netflix. I commend FX for findng appropriate replacement programming and not just rolling over because there is nothing new from Murphy, except for "American Horror Story", "Feud" and "American Crime Story". I think that this series will introduce a whole new generation to Bob Fosse, who being the Broadway pioneer that he was, deserves this.
Today the FX network announced that they will soon begin production on an eight-episode series, "Fosse/Verdon", about the relationship between Tony, Emmy and Oscar winner Bob Fosse and his wife Gwen Verdon. Oscar winner Sam Rockwell will play Fosse and Oscar nominee Michelle Williams will play Verdon and will be created by "Hamilton" and "In the Heights" creator Lin-Manuel Miranda. No air date has been announced.
Sounds like the same crime that was commited with "The First Wives Club". "You Don't Own Me" is sooo associated with that film. To completely disregard that song and choose to close the show with a Vegas Motown was a crime against musical theatre!
Went to see this film this morning and loved it!. Lily James was amazing as young Donna, as were all of the other actors that played the younger selves from the first film. Cher commanded the screen for the small time that she was in the film and I wouldn't be surprised if she gets a supporting actress Oscar nomination next year! I have been a major cheerleader for this show ever since it was announced. I have been a Cher fan since I was a child and feel that I have seen her grow and I grew up myself. Was more than ecstatic to have won lottery tickets for the very first preview performance (so excited I was on verge of nervous vomiting a few times!), and then saw it again with some of the changes at the press preview (I sat near Bob Mackie and Clinton Kelly from "The Chew"
In the second act, when Stephanie hands the show over to Michaela to do the number about her film career to "And The Beat Goes On", is complete Tony-bait. If that doesn't guarantee her a nomination, I don't know what will!..
She will definitely be nominated, the audience loves her. They really need to work more on the book and make the ending better. Micaela Diamond, Emily Skinner and Jerrod Spector will also be nominated!
I have seen the show twice, once on opening night and the second time when the show was performed for the critics. Both times I played the lottery and won front row seats in the center. To see all of the actors faces and reactions is amazing. I agree with most of the criticisms about the show. The Mackie fashion show in the first act made my jaw drop. The "Dark Lady" number needs to go or just needs to be performed by Cher, Sonny and Gregg NEVER perform
Before I saw the show, I was expecting it to be more of a chronological telling of her life story. But this show is about Cher and it cannot be conventional. I did like the song choices and how they were used, for the most part all of the songs were performed very well and also helped with the progression of the story...
I was at last night's performance, as well as the very first performance. Last night was a definite improvement over the first performance, but I can still see that there needs to have more things changed. I agree that Teal Wicks is the weakest of the three Chers, she doesn't being anything "extra" like the other two do. The best part of the evening was when Ms. Block appreared in Cher's Oscar outfit the year she wasn't nominated for "Mask"
