BEETLEJUICE - Pre-Broadway Tryout in DC  Oct 14 2018, 01:46:17 PM
Is anyone going tonight? I have been debating about whether or not to get tickets. Am anxious to hear about it.

PRETTY WOMAN Reviews  Aug 17 2018, 06:37:38 PM
I was there last night and thought it was just okay. I did really like both Eric Anderson and Tommy Bracio. I am suprised that the reviews aren’t more mixed and are as bad as they are. Will be interesting to see how word of mouth helps or kills the show...I had a regular theater goer sitting on one side who hated it. On the other was a couple from out of town who it sounded like make to the city for theatre occasionally. The wife was a giant fan of the movie and they both seemed to love the s

Is Opening Night Worth It?  Aug 15 2018, 06:46:24 PM

Hi All,

I'm going to be in the city tomorrow and figured I'd leave what I see up to the lottery gods since I've already seen Hamilton, DEH, Come from Away, My Fair Lady, Bands Visit, Dolly, Harry Potter, Once on this Island, etc.  Lost a few lottos already and planned to enter more tomorrow.  However, I just saw the Pretty Woman opens tomorrow night and there are a few seats left in the rear mezz.  I've seen a lot of theatre but never been to a Broadway o

'Dave' the musical (Kitt, Benjamin, Landau, Meehan)  Jul 25 2018, 08:09:49 PM

Saw this last night and enjoyed it.  The performances are great and I love what Landau has done.  As someone else mentioned, the score is fine but nothing remarkable. I also though there were a couple of clunky spots as the book lead into songs. Most of the creative team was in the back of the house watching last night so they are clearly still working right up to opening night which I believe is tomorrow.  It's a light and fun night at the theatre, with broadway calib

Les miserables school edition  Jun 17 2018, 10:14:32 AM

Cmanchester2 said: "Shh_413 said: "Don't jump on me if I'm wrong, but as an outsider who has no experience with these things (I came from a STEM high school), it appears that this rule was made to prevent theater directors from fulfilling their childhood dreams of starring as Jean Valjean in a school production of Les Miz and potentially taking roles away from kids.

That's why they put the 18-year-old rule as a random cap as they think that most high s

Point Park MT Alum on B/off Way?  May 28 2018, 10:11:34 AM

This is regional, but Lamont Walker is currently playing Haywood Patterson in The Scottsboro Boys at Signature in DC.

TV Alert - Sutton Foster  Apr 21 2018, 08:54:04 PM

I've seen Sutton in concert twice and this concert is very similar to what I saw both times.  She sings beautifully, but she doesn't entertain and engage her audience with stories in between songs the same way Laura Benanti, Audra McDonald or Kristin Chenoweth do as examples.  Love her and am always happy to listen to her sing, but she's not as strong in this type of setting as she is when she's playing a role.

ONCE ON THIS ISLAND (2017) Previews  Nov 12 2017, 09:39:24 AM
I saw it last night and was very impressed. Amazing set, orchestrations sounded great, fantastic performances and direction. For those asking about seating, I’m not sure you can really go wrong. But I think the even 200s and the closer to the 100s part of the odd 200s are probably a little better. Sat in G 207 and it was great.

Hedwig in DC - TODAY! Single tix for both performances  Jun 25 2017, 10:46:48 AM

Sorry you are sick. If you can go another day, call the box office (the show is here for another week). They will exchange your tickets for another performance. They will charge a fee for that but I remember it being small when I had to do it for something.

2nd row for Hello Dolly?  Jun 4 2017, 03:18:13 PM

Thanks so much, everyone!  I saw pre-broadway productions of Come from Away and Dear Evan Hanson, and everything else currently running I've either seen or am not really interested in seeing. It's way more than I ever spend on a single show but I think (hope!) it'll be worth it.

2nd row for Hello Dolly?  Jun 3 2017, 07:01:51 PM

I am considering spending way too much money on a Hello Dolly ticket.  My choices are 2nd row center orchestra, or a little further back (G or L) in the orchestra but off to the side.  Is the 2nd row too close for this show or is the stage low enough that the second row is okay?  Thank you!!

COME FROM AWAY - Broadway run announced  Sep 11 2016, 05:57:59 PM

I was at today's matinee and it was very emotional.  Huge, long ovation at the end.  Four of the people portrayed in the show were in the audience.  The cast is phenomenal- every last one of them.   I was moved to tears several times and also laughed a lot too.  I hope they put it in one of the smaller houses in NY, it's an intimate show.  I also hope that it finds an audience.  It's so well done and a story that deserves to be tol

Idina's awkward Queen of Swords  Aug 19 2016, 09:16:38 PM

She did a Facebook live a week or so of this song with her A Broader Way campers and it was great.  She was relaxed and clearly having a ball.  I like the song a lot but agree that she seems uncomfortable in this poorly conceived video.

Bad Theater Behavior  Aug 15 2016, 08:45:34 PM

I was in the city this weekend and saw five shows.  For the most part, it was just typical overly casual attire, people asking "what did she say", etc, and I have to say that the kids around me at School of Rock were extremely well-behaved.  But at The Color Purple, the woman seated next to me in the third row center orchestra was talking on her phone when Act II began. Rather than hang up as the actors took the stage, she kept going with her convo.  If looks could ki

Your First Broadway Show  Jul 17 2016, 05:20:08 PM

I saw many tours and regional productions growing up,  but my first show on Broadway was Art.  Was 22 and sat in the last row of balcony. It was fun to stand on the stage before Once began and look all the way up at that far away row.

Worst stage door experience  Jun 18 2016, 12:36:09 PM

Lin-Manuel Miranda just tweeted that people chased his car for two avenues last night and that it's starting to get scary.  With the Ham4ham shows and everything else, he's treated fans of the show so well.  It's a same people can't return that favor and be gracious and respectful.

Teen seeing Hamilton alone  May 30 2016, 04:12:44 PM

A 15 year old will be completely fine alone in the theater.  A city kid (any city not just NYC) or a well travelled kid who is used to getting around by herself will be perfectly safe and fine meeting up with you somewhere within a few blocks of the theater so you can avoid the post show crowds in that area and wait in more comfort.  As an adult female, I've never felt unsafe alone in the theater district at night.  If you live in a small town and don't t

Richard Rodgers Ushers are the biggest babies on broadway  Feb 24 2016, 09:09:14 PM

The article is completely inane, but I will say that I've seen four different shows at the Rodgers and two of the times my seats were on the right side of the orchestra (in the heights and if/then).  For both of those performances, I was directed to the wrong seat by an usher.  I then watched this woman direct others to the wrong seats and then have to move them when the rightful owners of the seats arrived.  Given that it happened twice at two different

Trouble at Matilda Tour in Seattle  Jan 10 2016, 10:54:33 AM

Having adults with accents and kids with none sounds like a recipe for an odd night at the theater.  I saw the OBC and had no problem understanding the show, but I've seen/heard enough complaints that they do seem to have an issue for whatever reason.  What I don't get is if you are going to attempt to solve the problem by getting rid of accents, why not just do it for the entire cast?  An all American accent Matilda seems wrong to me, but certainly better than British
