THIS AIN'T NO DISCO thread  Aug 6 2018, 08:44:04 AM
That makes sense, I was not aware of that dating and I guess ignoring AIDS makes some sense, but I still think it could have been referred to somehow.

Doesn't make it a better show either way.

THIS AIN'T NO DISCO thread  Aug 6 2018, 06:52:25 AM

Saw this Saturday night.  We went in with very limited expectations, based on this thread and the reviews.  When they scanned our tix the usher said "Oh, you're VIPs".  We figured it was because we were subscribers or because we were in the front row. No. We'll get to that. We were surprised that there were no characters developed enough to care for, except maybe Sammy.

We get that this was a search for family and belonging.  We thoug

Moulin Rouge: OPENING NIGHT Boston/Thoughts  Jul 30 2018, 05:38:07 PM

Really well considered and written.

I posted in the other thread -- one thing I left out is it seemed to me that some of the audience "participation" (hooting, clapping, laughing) was sweetened.  I'd hear clapping and not see any clapping until a second later.

Moulin Rouge Colonial Theatre Previews  Jul 30 2018, 05:28:50 PM

Gorgeous sets, amazing costumes, terrific choreography and the opening number of Act 2 was wonderful.  Even the audience was Beautiful last night -- can't remember the last time I saw such a well dressed crowd at theater

And now I must find my inner Leonard Pinth-Garnell for everything else.  We sat in Row B of the Balcony, dead center (101 and 103) (we were originally downstairs, then they started rescheduling and everything . . . ).  They don&

Good Hotels near the Theatre district?  Jul 30 2018, 05:21:32 PM

Airbnb is generally illegal in Manhattan and too often ends up falling through or being a scam.

If you can post a budget and dates it's much easier to find the right lodging for you

Yiddish Fiddler at the Museum of Jewish Heritage  Jul 25 2018, 06:53:36 AM

Bought tix in the front row for a show Labor Day Weekend (saw 'em, grabbed 'em).  They were $75/each, which is lower priced than further back.  Is it a high stage or some other reason they'd be less expensive?

Shocked at Broadway.com's Fees  Jul 20 2018, 07:32:57 AM

they were a good place to get Hamilton tix back in the day if you didn't want to pay quardruple on the resale market.

Moulin Rouge Colonial Theatre Previews  Jul 19 2018, 06:30:02 AM

Haven't seen the film since it came out and are seeing this at the Colonial in a couple weeks.

Would folks think it would be helpful to rewatch the movie or go in with just limited memories?

Shows for conservative Grandma  Jul 13 2018, 08:43:39 PM

I can see it now. Things she’ll be offended by:

partial view Sweeney?  Jul 13 2018, 08:39:07 PM

If that is the only way you can afford to see the show, go for it.  We sat there when we saw it and although we were sorry to miss some action from the rear of the floor (underneath us, effectively) we still thought the show was amazing and we were glad we had bought those tix.

And then they did the $50 deal for floor seats and saw it from there and it was even more incredible, but zero regrets for buying the cheap seats upstairs.

I wonder if I would go to this?

Moulin Rouge/Aaron Tveit  Jun 18 2018, 08:57:19 PM

We had tix for the matinee on 7/29 which is now Opening Night  . . . and now there's no matinee.  Called them up, left our number for them to call back and had a very nice and slightly frazzled box office person move us from halfway back in the Mezz for the matinee to the 2nd row of the Balcony for opening night.  Offered us Row A in the Balcony but we'd rather be in B on the aisle as we know row A there has no legroom

Theaters Comfortable for  Jun 15 2018, 06:07:31 PM

let me also vote for the Box seats.  We saw Hamilton and Come From Away a couple weeks ago from the Boxes. Unlimited leg room and tons of butt room, and so close to the action!

MAME - North Shore Music Theatre  Jun 13 2018, 08:06:52 PM

Sorry to hear it wasn't good.  A friend is in it, but at those prices and this word of mouth I'll have to settle for spotting her  in that "show highlights" youtube video.

Any Box Office bumps after Tonys reported ?  Jun 13 2018, 07:59:16 PM

I hear Harry Potter is doing quite well after all of their awards!

Just know that Airbnb is almost entirely illegal in NYC, especially in Manhattan, and folks end up finding out last minute that their reservation was canceled by the renter or by their building
