THE WAVERLY GALLERY Reviews  Oct 25 2018, 08:07:38 PM

Deadline gives it a rave.

MOULIN ROUGE Loading Into The Hirschfeld In May  Oct 25 2018, 07:48:13 PM

Mike Barrett said: "Not surprised to hear! This will do well come Tonys in 2020. With this and possibly Hadestown transferring, next season is looking amazing"

I doubt Moulin Rouge! will do well at the Tonys (at least in terms of wins) because it is the literal definition of a commodity musical as it’s not only based on a popular movie, but also utilizes hundreds of pre-existing songs. We've seen in recent years how the industry has been

Carmen Cusack coming to Broadway?  Oct 25 2018, 07:39:28 PM

It was just announced that Carmen Cusack is one of the newly announced cast members for the upcoming Mister Rogers biopic starring Tom Hanks.

Danny Burstein to Join MY FAIR LADY as Alfred Doolittle  Oct 17 2018, 05:21:00 PM

JSquared2 said: "Jeffrey Karasarides said: "Thank God this will be his return to Broadway and not Moulin Rouge!."

He's doing both. He's only in MFL until April 28th and Moulin Rouge doesn't pick up until the summer.
"

Sorry, what I meant was that I'm glad Moulin Rouge! won't be his first time back on Broadway since Fiddler on the Roof, and something a billion times more exciting like My

Thank God this will be his return to Broadway and not Moulin Rouge!.

Should there be a SHOW BOAT revival anytime soon?  Oct 8 2018, 01:56:53 PM

IdinaBellFoster said: "There’s a video (I believe it was on Theatre Talk) which was Sher & Bishop talking about shows they’d like to do. Bishop mentions how the book for SHOW BOAT is unproduceable in 2018."

You're right. André Bishop did say that he loves Show Boat, and thought about producing, but finds the book to be more than problematic.

Macys parade  Oct 7 2018, 09:28:23 AM

My guesses for the parade are The Cher Show, Mean Girls, and My Fair Lady - hopefully with 'Get Me to the Church on Time'. I think the fourth slot will go either Head Over Heels or The Prom.

Waitress is a Dramaturgical Wreck  Sep 26 2018, 09:40:18 PM

I at least agree that Waitress as a musical is pretty problematic. Jessie Nelson's script feels a little longer than it needs to be (it’s no surprise to me that Waitress was the only one of the five 2016 Best Musical nominees that wasn’t nominated for Best Book of a Musical). Sara Bareilles' score is nice, but it doesn't feel complete. Like there are moments in the show where Jenna fantasizes pies she creates in her mind, but they

Audra returning to Broadway...?  Sep 21 2018, 10:57:01 AM

In terms of the co-star I mentioned...he was Tony nominated for his most recent Broadway role. He won the Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle Award but ultimately lost at the Tonys.

Wicked  Sep 15 2018, 11:42:23 AM

Here's the most recent update Stephen Schwartz has given.
https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/wicked-creator-stephen-schwartz-fate-movie-musical-1143496

Of course, it appears to be the usual developmental process where the studio won't officially give a project the greenlit until there's a script they feel satisfied with.

Mary Poppins west end  Sep 13 2018, 06:39:12 PM

Given how Aladdin has still been grossing over $1,000,000 a week on Broadway, I doubt it'll be closing anytime soon.

FIDDLER ON THE ROOF National Tour  Sep 13 2018, 06:35:28 PM

You can look up a lot of Yehezkel Lazarov's previous credits on IMDB.
https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0493787/

In any case, I think it's pretty cool that an actual Israeli actor will be leading the tour as Tevye. I was actually a huge fan of the most recent Broadway revival, and I'm looking forward to seeing this in Durham.

Ain't Too Proud Officially Heading to Broadway  Aug 23 2018, 09:01:45 PM

GeorgeandDot said: "If Evita and Jesus Christ Superstar were considered original than I don't see why Hadestown wouldn't be considered original."

I also just saw that Anaïs Mitchell actually wrote 15 new songs for the stage, so she's apparently written more than enough to be eligible for an Original Score nomination.

Ain't Too Proud Officially Heading to Broadway  Aug 23 2018, 08:47:36 PM

Would Hadestown even be eligible for Original Score given that a lot of its content already came from a concept album?

Craig Zadan has passed away  Aug 21 2018, 09:26:07 PM

Craig Zadan started out his career producing cabaret acts with Neil Meron before heading to The Public Theatre to work for Joseph Papp. In the early 1980’s, film producer Peter Guber met with the pair about getting himself into the theatre industry. He would return the favor by teaching them about movies and television. Zadan and Meron then went out to California to get started in the industry. Their first three films as producers were Footloose, Sing, and&nb

I don't hate Jack O'Brien. He seems like a great guy in the interviews I've seen with him. Whenever I brought up his recent track record, I was referring to how a lot of his productions have been rece

I certainly don’t remember asking you, especially since your understanding of most things seem to be so far off anything that’s actually real. Remember when you petulantly insisted that there was no way Leslie Odom Jr. would get a nomination

Ragtime Revival  Aug 7 2018, 11:21:28 PM

If and when Ragtime receives its second Broadway revival, I think Lincoln Center Theater should produce it (especially since the last two productions lost a lot of money) with Bartlett Sher at the helm.
