Collins / Evans "Legends" - anyone ever see this?  Aug 4 2018, 12:25:33 PM
I saw both.
The two experiences combined amazingly enough failed to kill me off.

Most creative/interesting curtain calls you've seen?  Jul 28 2018, 07:48:31 PM
Rags, 1986, Hellinger.

Teresa Stratas stood on stage from the beginning of the curtain call, applauding both the chorus and supporting cast, and then took her bow.
Magnificent.

2018 Broadway FleaMarket autograph table.  Jul 27 2018, 11:37:49 AM

Jordan Catalano said: "If the past couple years have taught us anything m, the tables will be littered with D-List soap opera stars, replacement cast members for long running musicals and the “big name” in one or two of the time slots. "

It sends me reeling just to imagine the rock bottom onto which one must fall in order to qualify as a D-List soap opera star.

But... as they sing in Ragtime... That's the Showbiz!

STRAIGHT WHITE MEN Previews  Jul 23 2018, 09:42:57 AM
Well, my week has already been ruined on account of my current introspection.
I grew up at a time when Clive Barnes, Doug Watt and Martin Gottfried were in their prime reviewing New York theatre.
They could be nasty and they could be nice, but the majority of the time they told it like it was.
It was also a time when individual producers - not corporations - like David Merrick and Alex Cohen had the balls to say "My show stinks; I'm shutting it down." Maybe in the process giving what

Musicals due for a revival  Jul 19 2018, 09:13:05 AM
Perhaps Ethan Slater...

as Leo Frank?

RIP Gary Beach  Jul 18 2018, 07:50:09 PM
A glorious performer.
Saw him twice in The Producers (including the 1st Chicago tryout preview) and in Legends! (with ...).
There might have been more. Have to consult the reference books.
While in NYC in May 2001, I saw him arriving in front of the St. James in grand style - and dressed impeccably - prior to the Saturday matinee of The Producers.
Wonderful!

STRAIGHT WHITE MEN Previews  Jul 16 2018, 12:15:07 PM
At 63, I've had many, many occasions of being proved wrong, but that constant grinding sound inside my head could be the critics busily sharpening their knives for this one.

Has no one been truly blown away by PASSOVER at Lincoln Center?  Jul 15 2018, 07:50:30 PM
Relatively little discussion about this riveting - to say the least - play.
I saw it a couple of years ago at Steppenwolf in Chicago, and never forgot it.
Unless I missed a previous thread...

Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 7/8/18  Jul 9 2018, 08:39:24 PM
HogansHero:

Summer lost approximately $207,000 last week.
And, for eight performances.
That is a horrific drop; by any stretch.
Hopefully the fresh marketing you allude to will kick in as soon as... yesterday - and will have an immediate impact.
Otherwise, I'm contending that this show is in real trouble.

Was Betty Buckley banned from Broadway?  Jul 7 2018, 07:41:10 PM
The first time I ever saw her was in August 1970 in London in Promises, Promises; twice more in the years since.
Excellent performer.

Will Julie Andrews EVER return to the Broadway stage  Jul 6 2018, 09:19:32 AM
The Other One; you're correct regarding V/V.
She only agreed to it because she didn't want to disappoint her husband.
In addition; when the 1976 revival of MFL was in discussion and after being asked to recreate her role, she said she was only interested in a commitment of 10 weeks or so.
Apparently even at that time returning to B'way wasn't a huge priority.

1776 in 1976 at Melody Top  Jul 3 2018, 07:53:50 PM
I was studying at Oxford when this production was playing, but I did manage to see Forum with Arte Johnson, Bells Are Ringing with Rita Moreno, and Shenandoah with John Raitt that season nevertheless.

Sigh.

Those were the days.

Roles for Leonardo Dicaprio on Broadway  Jun 30 2018, 08:07:42 PM

Uptown theatre to finally be restored?  Jun 30 2018, 03:34:32 PM
Not only do I agree, but it might steal some bookings away from the Riviera.

Uptown theatre to finally be restored?  Jun 29 2018, 03:17:16 PM

Apparently at the time, the interior structure was stable enough to allow us to meander around the balcony. There was water leakage here and there, besides the roof/ceiling.

I wish them well; I do.
However, as cited, the lack of necessary parking will remain a deterrent.
Also, the last time I was inside (1998), it was just a mess.
