I still maintain that the marquis can be a blank canvas, there are no side boxes as such, they can simply create some faux box panels as what we see in the photo is part of the Colonial and not the set. They can also go overboard with the drapery in the roof, paint those ugly boards black (or remove some, last time I was there, Evita, some looked like they were ready for fall out) Plus they have a decent size lobby to decorate.
It makes me chuckle everytime something new is opening and people go "move phantom" as if moving a show on Broadway is that easy or cheap. it is terribly expensive to move a show. it costs almost as much as creating said show from scratch as there are endless union restrictions. It is much cheaper to do this in London thats why more shows in London seem to move around when needed. So phantom wont ever move, even though I think it would be nice in a smaller house.
Well, I went backstage a few times, and saw it tucked away in the corner, if you can find Toronto photos (there aren't many) you can see the pride rock uses the stepped design (looks like a bunch of steps) not a sloping design, this is for it to straighten out when it tracks off stage, they even showed me the tracks and the mechanism that changes tracks for when it goes from going around in a circle to going straight offstage

Been in that one for the first time recently, its quite pretty, not sure the 'styles' mesh but they can cover up most of it, it does not have upper boxes for things like that elephant though but i am sure they will tweak the design to suit. they also have a nice size lobby.
Will Kinky Boots outright close or possibly transfer to something smaller?
Would be difficult to translate that into the winder garden withougt cutting those FOH drapes, Winter Garden has a lowish ceiling. the Palace would have been lovely but thats out. The thing with the Marquis is they have room and i am sure if they strip out all that wood in the ceiling they would get even more of a 'blank slate' to work with.
But the Broadway would also be nice.
I hope they will have some sort of elephant room on stage though and not try to do those
I love cats, but I dont get it, the whole point of cats is that its a dance heavy show, so if you CGI it and dont have human proportions the dancing WONT WORK, and if you CGI it with human proportions it would just look weird. Why then not just film people. and again, i do LOVE cats but do we really need this when there is a perfectly fine DVD of the show?
This whole business is very subjective, I saw it in London having NOT seen the movie and didnt really care for it, the set was nice but thats about it. When eventually I saw the movie that too was a let down.
I havent seen the show, but, are any scenes with Elsa set in her ice castle? I dont get that impression (except maybe the one where Anna comes and tries to convince her to come home) so if there isnt one, why go to the expense of a huge ice castle coming up out of the stage for just 2 minutes of stage time?
I'm personally a bit worried about these plans tho. Im sure they have experts and all doing it, I just hope if it happens nothing goes terrible wrong with the lift. The landlords I am sure cant wait to free up all that times square space. (Im also not a fan of moving the entrance around the corner, but as is their marquis gets lost among all the adds.)
