Getting together before HELLO, DOLLY's last performance  Aug 3 2018, 04:07:31 PM

Dollypop I am in awe of your devotion to all things Dolly and your contributions here, but....and by God I don't wish to offend.....I am confused about your gender.

Do I remember you saying you played Dolly somewhere?

Obviously the character means something to you emotionally and you might have shared that on here at some time but I didn't see it.

How do theatre staff/cast react to you in the audience so often, and those sitting around you as your joy and delight

Cursed Child Melbourne News?  Jul 31 2018, 06:46:43 AM

Only that the Princess Theatre has all new seats[thank God] and now has a center aisle and the inside had been painted a dark green[I think. The theatre has been booked for 5 years.

Just passing on info from friends who went to opening night of Mamma Mia.

I will be in Melb. in 2 weeks to see The Production Company's production of Boy from Oz-Rohan Brown[VERY spunky] as Peter Allen with Caroline O'Connor as Judy Garland and will see Rocky Horror as well. Will report if an

Most creative/interesting curtain calls you've seen?  Jul 29 2018, 12:55:18 AM

One thing I HATE is when the audience claps along to the 'bow music' and there is no increased level of applause when a featured performer appears. My pathetic little clap is lost amongst the 'sea of claps' until the roar for the Star happens.

I just feel for the hardworking performer who misses out on hearing their usually well deserved applause.

Must learn to be a happy little clapper[along].

SomethingPeculiar said: "MAME curtain call had the ultimate star-treatment: whole cast takes their individual bows, then a group bow, and THEN the leading lady makes her entrance in a costume that hasn't been used previously, greeting her co-stars, bowing to them, and bowing to the audience. Only a special kind ofstarcould pull off this type of curtain call without it seeming entirely self-indulgent.

Sincerity aside...  Jul 28 2018, 03:33:34 AM

Give or take a few years, Mr Humphries has been entertaining millions of people for over 50 years. His entire spiel has been to shock and embarrass the 'little people' [and I don't mean short].

He is an extremely intelligent man and throughout thousands of interviews, in whatever character he was, the art of the ad lib can often come back and slap you in the face.

If his offensive comments were meant as reported then he certainly needs to respond to the criticism tha

"BETTE MIDLER TO TAKE 'HELLO, DOLLY!' TO THE WEST END IN 2019"  Jul 25 2018, 11:31:39 PM

Does anybody actually know what Ms Midler is getting $ wise for her 7 performances a week [plus merchandise} ?

NY Times Journalist's  Jul 24 2018, 05:38:30 PM

I think it boils down to how sensitive an individual reacts to personal comments. Love/hate your new hairstyle; gosh, you've lost a lot of weight--yes, been really sick; gee--you've put on a lot of weight--thanks for telling me--I hadn't noticed !! or said to me--you're losing your hair--thanks I REALLY hadn't noticed--must go and do something about it.

You venture onto shaky ground when you open your mouth, or put pen to paper and make any sort of personal referenc

re: Bad usher/ theatre employee stories?  Jul 21 2018, 12:33:11 AM

With all due respect Mr PThespian, from my visits to America, observations through movies and the TV, money in your country flies around like confetti.

It seems that $ bills are the only thing that will get a response to a question or something done, bought about by a sub standard minimal wage and a ridiculous tipping system.

I don't see it as insulting you to offer you dollars as I am sure that 99.9% of an audience would have no clue as to the reasonable response you gave h

On 4 flights, admittedly on discount airlines, for $100.[after take-off] I have been moved from economy to business. Doesn't work all the time but always travel prepared and well dressed.

re: Tipping ushers at Broadway theaters?  Jul 20 2018, 11:07:13 PM

Oh ArtMan thank you for the memories of a male strip club that was somewhere off Broadway where many a dancer practiced their art before/after and no show time. I don't remember what I tipped as we don't have[or didn't then] have that sort of entertainment in Australia though I did thoroughly enjoy the meet and greet sessions after each show.

re: Tipping ushers at Broadway theaters?  Jul 20 2018, 09:22:33 PM

Whatever makes you happy.

Love any stories relating to theatre--old or new.

re: Tipping ushers at Broadway theaters?  Jul 20 2018, 03:37:15 PM

I still remember on my very first visit to Paris and going to a theatre, I was shown to my seat and the usherette[?] stood there with her hand out. I was sitting down when I realised she wanted something put into it. I fumbled around in my pocket and gave her a single piece of loose change-not yet knowing the currency which she actually threw back at me. I was mortified.

Musicals due for a revival  Jul 20 2018, 04:07:28 AM

Cher is the only Mame that would sell out every performance[well maybe with Cher only doing 4 a week] with very little publicity and Baranksi as Vera, then as Mame when Cher is 'resting'. Lots of choices for another Vera and a newly discovered talent for Gooch.

Thank God the Gypsy Robe is now the legacy Robe  Jul 18 2018, 04:16:19 PM

Diana Rigg Leaving My Fair Lady  Jul 18 2018, 03:45:14 PM

OK I'm a prude so why all those Fs........?  Not necessary and not funny--'look at me, I can say the F word'.

What Wonderful People, NOT  Jul 17 2018, 06:44:19 AM

Now would certainly be the time to go see Chicago as I'm sure the cast would certainly NOT be phoning it in in light of this recent tragedy. They would so be on their game that every night should seem like opening night all over again.

Will be very interesting to read how the two protagonists will be dealt with-if at all.

Oddest things you've heard from non theatre people  Jul 15 2018, 08:11:29 PM

Not quite the same thing, but....was in London for a very short visit and desperate  to see Sarah Brightman in Aspects of Love only to be told she was out for a time doing something else.

I was speechless thinking that she just had to be there just because I was. I carried on like a demented queen asking all these silly useless question because of cause it was all about me until the prissy old queen[yes they're everywhere in England] at the box office said, Sir ! [I wouldn

Bad Theater Behavior  Jul 14 2018, 04:45:05 PM

Oh for those 'good old days' when as an usher[in Australia] all I did on the door was smile, tear tickets and if working inside show patrons to their seat--there was no such thing as mobile phones so the only disturbance was coughing, talking and lolly wrappers. There was always a fireman somewhere in the house and one of us sat at the back [on each level]but mostly we were gossiping and giggling somewhere in the foyers and reappeared at interval and at the end.

It's 2018 a

West Side Story White- Washing Controversy in Australia  Jul 14 2018, 03:29:42 AM

Thanks G&D for stepping in for ER2 and trust you can calm down from your angry response to see how I tried to respectfully explain my observations.

I can't defend a whole country but both contributors have taken this personal vendetta against Australia and lumped it into the one so-called racist hotpot. That I find is unfair.

I will leave this thread knowing that I have actually tried to defend my country, Australia.
