The Kiss Me, Kate exclamation point  Mar 14 2019, 11:44:07 PM

I think it interesting that the program/cover art/etc all have a big ! after Kate, and that isn't the way work was originally listed.

And the reviews that I have read all choose to omit it.  A small point (very small I admit) but it is interesting to think why it was added?

On a similar note: at Broadwaycon this year they (the production team) kept crowing about Oklahoma! having its 75th anniversary, when it fact it is the 76th...

Maybe no

Hugh Jackman in The Music Man  Mar 13 2019, 10:50:52 AM

I agree that I don't hear Sutton (whom I adore) as a Legit Soprano (eg Cook, Jones, Luker, Chenoweth)  But maybe she has that range and just hasn't used it before.

But "My White Knight" really sits up there!

Sara Bareilles Instagram Rant  Jan 17 2019, 02:01:11 PM

Can someone kindly tell me at what performance this happened?  I was there Sunday 1/13 and didn't notice anything amiss --- only a gorgeous performance that brought the house down.  Was it that night?  Or the 14th?  I can't quite tell.  If it was the night I was there we surely didn't see it in the balcony!  BTW  Gavin Creel is superb in his new role!

THANKS

Jeremy Jordon and Oklahoma  Jan 14 2019, 09:30:57 PM

I don't know who wrote the melody for this but with the exception of about 20 notes, the rest is an unknown composer.  I know that the R & H Organization is thrilled by this, but I find it really upsetting, especially since Rodgers was such a stickler for his music to be sung correctly.  I have listened to it twice and with th exception of the intro to each verse there is nothing left of the original melody.  In fact the entire R & H Goes Pop at Broadwaycon was real

Waitress and Discount code  Dec 22 2018, 02:29:47 PM

Hello all.  I have been trying to get the discount to work for Waitress.

I used FAM5 and PLAY3.  Each time it says invalid code, or even not valid for tickets you ordered (even though I haven't selected a ticket)  This is the ticketmaster website . Today, Saturday afternoon, the phone doesn't even ring through when dialed.  Maybe a holiday rush has caused some issues?

Is there a trick some kind soul could share?

Am going 1/13 at 7:00 pm p

Musical Theatre actors with solo albums  Oct 6 2018, 08:44:19 AM

In an earlier Broadway time almost every star had solo albums (luckily many available on CD):

Julie Andrews, Mary Martin, Carol Lawrence, Barbara Cook, Ethel Merman, John Raitt,  Dolores Gray, Gwen Verdon (a favorite), and dozens more.  I am glad that this welcome contribution to our music continues!  Sometimes the arrangements were unique perhaps giving a 50s or 60s flavor to the songs that they didn't have in their OBC recordings.

Laura Benanti to replace Lauren Ambrose in MY FAIR LADY  Aug 27 2018, 12:43:36 PM

Thank you very much!

Laura Benanti to replace Lauren Ambrose in MY FAIR LADY  Aug 27 2018, 12:11:51 PM

I can only get to NYC for a Sunday performance.  So if I am reading/understanding correctly, Ms. Benanti does Sundays but not Tuesdays (which is different than Lauren Ambrose)

Thanks for confirming before I order tix!

TOOTSIE to open at the Marquis, April 23  Aug 11 2018, 07:59:04 PM

BrodyFosse123 said: "Countless now classic musicals never recouped butwere consideredhits: WEST SIDE STORY, GYPSY, THE SOUND OF MUSIC, FUNNY GIRL, FOLLIES... the list is endless.

Just because a show doesn't recoup doesn't make it a failure. A financial failure? Yes. A failure as a show? Absolutely not.

Are you sure that the originals of Sound of Music, Gypsy, and Funny Girl didn't recoup? I thought SOM for sure was a huge money maker. I would imagine

CAROUSEL Closing 9/16  Aug 8 2018, 03:25:47 PM

Goodness knows I am no fan of Miss Fleming (especially in any kind of popular music), and I didn't even like the "extra" stuff they gave for her to sing eg "What's the Use of Wondrin" and the end of "You'll Never Walk Alone"  which I didn't care for from the recording.  Just my opinion.

But I am not sure what the poster is referring to here.  I have seen at least 1/2 dozen productions of "Carousel" and even ap

Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 8/5/18  Aug 7 2018, 12:23:15 AM

Is Carousel really going to make it all the way to January 2019?

These are rather low grosses for a really "big" show.

The last time they grossed over a million was 6 weeks ago.

So they have gone from approximately 1.1 million to approximatley 675K.  That is a big drop over 6 weeks.  And if I am reading the charts right the lowest grosses since they opened.

Interesting to see how it all plays out.  Perhaps the replacement for Ms.

Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 7/29/18  Jul 30 2018, 05:10:52 PM

Is Carousel still turning a profit with the grosses it has been having?  I would think it is an expensive show to run with a larger cast and also a large dance corps.

Carousel possible closing date  Jul 25 2018, 06:50:34 PM

I was on their website and no performances are listed past 7:30 pm, Sunday January 6th, 2019

Is this the closing date?  Maybe this has always been the date? Curious as I know that the box office has not been stellar in the past few weeks. I am also interested as to whom will replace Renee Fleming who goes out 9/2 according to her website.  Is she planning to return in late October or November?  Her website is mum on that subject.  But there are gaps in listed engage

Riedel on Diana Rigg being annoyed Ambrose misses Sundays  Jul 6 2018, 03:47:35 PM

OK I agree that the announcement of the alternate Eliza (who is splendid by the way) would be an unpleasant one for folks who had purchased tickets specifically to see Ms. Ambrose on that day. Although I was offered the chance for a refund at the performance I went to in May --- I happily said no.  It was the *show* I wanted to see not the talented Ms. Ambrose!  I would have been thrilled to see her as well as her understudy.

However all of those who talk about the difficulty

Carousel Principals' Attendance  Jul 1 2018, 07:55:05 PM

Susan Graham would be inspired casting but she is booked all of September and parts of October.

Are Deborah Voigt, Jessye Norman and von Stade still actively performing?  Maybe they could be lured back from (semi) retirement. Voigt does sing concerts on occasion, but Norman and especially von Stade you see the names less and less. von Stade is actually in Philly during September. Norman doesn't seem to have an engagements calendar that I can find.

Joyce diDonato has som

Carousel Principals' Attendance  Jun 30 2018, 04:31:33 PM

I wonder if Fleming's replacement might be Stephanie Blythe?  She did at with the NY Phil not that long ago and I believe also with the Houston Grand Opera.

If you check her engagement schedule she is free until November when she has performances at the Met Opera.

Just the kind of "earth mother" voice I like in that role!

Judy Kuhn Love Thread  Jun 30 2018, 04:28:23 PM

I love her gorgeous voice also.  I believe she is appearing in Provincetown this summer with Seth Rudetsky.

July 15 and 16th.  I would give anything to hear her again on Broadway also.  Her concerts are pretty amazing, though.

Can you tell me the name of the understudy? I think Julie and Carrie have more than one. Thanks! I think one person might do both parts.
