Oddest things you've heard from non theatre people  Jul 30 2018, 02:33:27 PM

I've heard plenty of hot takes from non theater people, but then sometimes I remember some of my OWN before I knew more about theater, and they're so much worse, so I'll embarrass myself instead:

1). When I saw Wicked on a high school field trip, I found out our seats were in the orchestra. I assumed this meant we were sitting WITH the pit - in my defense, I was going with our school's concert band, but how I had never heard of "orchestra seating" before fresh

THIS AIN'T NO DISCO thread  Jul 29 2018, 12:55:36 PM

I saw the matinee yesterday - bought tickets a while back as I am a fan of krystina alabado and stephen trask. I have mixed feelings, but I think as I've sat thinking about it they've grown more positive. I think the show definitely had....a LOT going on....I almost want to see it again just so I can process it better, not necessarily because I liked it. I didn't mind the music - some of the songs I would absolutely love to hear again. I thought the performances were incredible, p

HEAD OVER HEELS Reviews  Jul 29 2018, 12:40:20 PM

I saw this on a last second stubhub decision last night and it was the most fun I've had in a theater in a long time. I'm sad to see that it isn't grossing well, but most of the people around me had a great time too, so I'm hoping it'll pick up a bit, but not optimistic. I think if this had opened off broadway in a smaller theater, it would be doing incredibly well and would have found more of its audience - not sure broadway was ready for it, unfortunately. I thought

I think they change it with what's relevant - my friends said sometime after the oil spill years ago it was BP

Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 7/22/18  Jul 25 2018, 11:21:08 AM

ACL2006 said: "The Hudson and Sondheim will (likely) be open for the Spring. CRAZY FOR YOU in the Sondheim? JAGGED LITTLE PILL to the Cort? HADESTOWN to the Hudson? AIN'T TOO PROUD to the Marquis?"

A lot of my friends have expressed that they think JLP would do really well in the Booth and are hoping for that (no idea what the show is pulling for, though, I'm just hoping it transfers!)

Is the Freaky Friday DCOM going to be a musical?  Jul 24 2018, 09:57:31 AM

maybe I'm only surprised so few people knew it because I'm younger (20) and grew up with them, but DCOM is an accepted acronym, not one randomly-made-up by the OP - pronounced like "D-com" - so it is a fair acronym to use, and familiar to many people. totally valid to not know it, but not something worth criticizing the OP for when a google search is easy. regarding the original post, the trailer is definitely weird in basically leaving out that it's

PRETTY WOMAN Broadway Previews  Jul 20 2018, 10:53:17 AM

Did anybody rush this morning? Curious how the seats are (especially since you all keep mentioning never seeing the front row orch go on sale.....if they're being held for rush or a future lotto, that'd be awesome....)

Anyone have theatre ticket stub hub success before?  Jul 12 2018, 03:33:55 PM

Theater3232 said: "They're the nicest people going. Have used them multiple times & there's never a line to pick up. I wish every ticket organization were as nice, friendly and courteous as they were.Right on the corner of 39th & Broadway."

I second this - I got last minute concert tickets on stubhub that weren't listed as partial view online but were marked PV on the ticket once I got it - they immediately gave me full view seats in the same sect

Moulin Rouge Colonial Theatre Previews  Jul 11 2018, 12:00:07 PM

re: the song list - I'm a big fan of walk the moon, anyone know the context of shut up and dance/who sings it? I'm assuming either elephant love medley or something in the moulin rouge itself?

Which Musical Numbers Helped  Jun 11 2018, 11:22:17 AM
I think frozen and spongebob defintely helped themselves with their numbers and were the best of the night. The Band’s Visit was stunning but their awards will do much more for them than their performance, and while I absolutely loved mean girls as a show and that they wanted to highlight all of their stars in their number, it was definitely the wrong choice. spongebob knew that I’m not a loser would be the perfect vibe for the tonys and worked around it not being Slater’s song - Mean girls sho

Tyler Glenn of Neon Trees to Make Broadway Debut in KINKY BOOTS; Carrie St. Louis and J. Harrison Ghee to Join Cast  May 8 2018, 01:32:27 PM
That’s weird because he definitely started on Sunday, he posted on social media after the show all excited. Anyone seen him yet? I was a big fan back in the day and am really intrigued by his casting, hoping to hear good things!

Good Magic Shows in NYC?  May 8 2018, 02:49:47 AM
I’ll second In and of Itself - on paper, a one-man-show with no helpful plot description other than it having illusions didn’t appeal a ton to me, but I went for free with school and it had the Neil Patrick Harris name attached and all that. I wound up loving it and am looking forward to going back this summer if I can, and the illusions/magic are definitely a huge huge part of why I loved it so much, so I think it fits what you’re looking for. You’ll leave asking far more questions than when yo

What would have made Frozen Better  May 8 2018, 02:34:52 AM
I personally really loved the show, so I’m definitely not commenting negative here - but I think it would’ve been so fun if Olaf had a huge tap number at the top of Act 2 or just somewhere in there. They could’ve expanded In summer for sure and it would’ve been amazing to see, but not essential so I get why it isn’t there. Also: would be a much better experience overall if they followed their no children under 8 “policy”....

Angels in America seating  Apr 29 2018, 11:47:13 PM

I posted on one of the angels threads a week or so ago about my experience - I had gone for rush but got there after they ran out, and was instead offered a discounted full-view non-rush seat for $198. I took it and it hurt my bank account but I never regretted it for such a beautiful show, and when I got there, the seat was AMAZING. Anyway. I'm posting again because I just checked ticketmaster, and..............

They gave me a HUGE discount. The women at the box office said it was

Boys in the Band Rush  Apr 29 2018, 11:14:21 PM

I don't know about any announced rush policy, but I asked the box office two weeks ago and they said they'd definitely do standing room for any performances that sold out - but maybe not during previews / til after it opened. Since the theater is small, despite ticket sales, I wouldn't be surprised if most performances sold out mid-day and standing room became available pretty easily early afternoon - at least I'm hoping.

A very detailed discourse on THE BOYS IN THE BAND  Apr 27 2018, 09:45:43 AM

I admit that I don't know much about the show critically, only a quick glance at a summary when I first heard about it, but the cast looks amazing and I've been trying to see more plays this season as they're definitely what's been standing out, at least for me. However, broke college student and all that.....but I stopped by the box office last week and they said they're definitely doing standing room for this show, just probably not til after opening night, so I'm ho

Angels in America Question  Apr 24 2018, 07:47:15 PM

I also agree. I went alone on Saturday and have never had a better theater experience in my life. Also, this show had one of the best audiences I've ever been a part of - every intermission I had someone to chat with and everyone was very friendly, excitedly saying they'd see me after the dinner break, etc. Probably because everyone there was there for 8 hours and clearly wanted to be there rather than the tourists and "I'll check it out I guess" people at more standard

Angels in America rush reports  Apr 17 2018, 03:37:51 PM

anyone rushed lately?? I'm planning on trying for both parts on saturday and will report back but wouldn't mind some more recent reports about arrival times locations etc.

Come From Away rush  Mar 2 2018, 03:53:27 PM

Tuna2 said: "I'm getting to the theater between 12:30 - 1:00 pm tomorrow (3/3/18). What are my chances (if any) to score two Standing Room tickets for either the matinee or evening performances? Any tips/suggestions would be much appreciated!! Thanks!!"

Probably no chance if any, I got there around 7:30am last time I rushed and standing room sold out right away - granted, that was January, not march, but I can't imagine any being left past 10am

Evan Hansen Free Fan Performance  Nov 6 2017, 03:37:16 PM
I also got it at 2:55, so I’m guessing they’re sending it out at a specified time each day in waves rather than more spread out, so I wouldn’t spend all say checking your phone, but who knows. Now I just have to figure out who to bring with me, but I have so many friends that would want to....this can’t end well.....
