THE WAVERLY GALLERY Reviews  Oct 26 2018, 12:01:55 AM

Lila deserves so so so much success

What Caryl Churchill play should I read first?  Oct 7 2018, 11:36:49 PM

Start with Top Girls and Cloud Nine. Then run wild. Escaped Alone is my favorite of hers, though.

BAM Next Wave Festival  Oct 7 2018, 07:56:52 PM

I thought it might be appropriate to start a thread for performance reports from BAM's Next Wave Festival, to avoid too many individual threads.

I saw SITI Company's The Bacchae today and thought it was quite excellent in its own esoteric and distant way. Viewpoints is a remarkably effective technique for Greek theatre and the ending was absolutely remarkable. Some odd humor choices that felt rather "how do you do, fellow kids?" (Pentheus dabs a

The play intentionally is set not in our world. The story is fictional and uses a lot of the context for the 2008 primary as a jumping off point for one of Hnath's morality plays. Much like A Doll's House, Part 2 the context is purely decorative.

THE WAVERLY GALLERY (2018) Previews  Sep 26 2018, 01:02:54 PM

It's a Lila Neugebauer piece alright, with its icy pacing, underplayed performances, and refusal to theatricalize unless absolutely necessary. I absolutely loved it (including those elegiac and extremely long transitions), but it's certainly not going to be a revival for everyone.

Lucas Hedges continues to be a magnificent performer for his age. I hope to see him onstage for years to come.

I'll be there at first preview! Very very excited.

Uncle Vanya (Hunter Theater Project)  Sep 19 2018, 08:20:52 PM

An extraordinarily concentrated and careful effort from Nelson and company. Uncle Vanya is intensely depressing and this is maybe the most depressing production I've yet seen of it. Those looking for Chekhov with laughter should probably go somewhere else.

The play works remarkably well in-the-round. Production design was top-notch. 5 cast members were extraordinary (especially the actor playing Ivan Petrovich) and 2 were astonishingly bad. Overall, a totally worthwhile production,

TBV Recoups  Sep 10 2018, 01:22:28 PM

Out of curiosity, what are these great musicals that are totally original? Everything I can think of that's traditionally highly regarded is based on some other existing material (excepting maybe The Music Man).

I WAS MOST ALIVE WITH YOU at Playwrights Horizons  Sep 5 2018, 10:38:39 PM

wolfwriter is exactly on target here. Just dreadful.

Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 8/19/18  Aug 24 2018, 05:05:27 PM

Who are these masses of people who hate this show that you speak of? Certainly you don't just mean yourself?

Michael R. Jackson's work

Nanci* Zoppi, actually.

Be More Chill Off-Broadway  Jul 27 2018, 12:49:34 AM

have not seen the musical, but the book this is based on is one of the most sexist piles of garbage I've ever had the misfortune of reading.

John Bambery stars in 'Sunday in the Park' in S.F. and Recalls His Visit With Chita Rivera & Roger Rees  Jul 26 2018, 02:03:46 PM

Speaking from a completely unbiased perspective, this production is mind-blowingly astonishing and everybody should beg, borrow, or steal to see it asap.

[Dr. Doofenshmirtz Voice] and by unbiased I mean completely biased.

Rosemary's Baby as a play  Jul 25 2018, 11:38:20 PM

love a good reminder why fans shouldn't cast plays!

Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again (Reactions Thread)  Jul 19 2018, 11:36:18 PM
