King Lear Glenda Jackson caused me to think that Shakespeare was an awful playwright. Lightning Thief had me leave at intermission. Hated Farinelli. Don't agree with others choices of If/Then, Mullinger, Beetlejuice or Amazing Grace. Slave Play pissed me off with its anti-white "taking up too much space" stance.
Reading the previous comments here shows a majority response from people who haven't even taken the time to see this play - so I don't think it is achieving as much notable biased rabble-rousing reaction as it strives for?
I found this to be an offensive & insulting piece t
Glad to hear this score getting some new interpretations. I don't understand how an actor in a Bwy musical could be called "over-qualified" as a singer? (Earier comment from CatsNYrevival.) Have audiences just always seem the shows women in the past to be carrying the scores vocal heft? Does that mean a singing actor makes the music sound too pretty, too legit. vocally? Also, can an actor have a recording contract that allows some artistic control? It seems like the actress

Inheritance by far. A much superior piece. You can read the published work. (I doubt Slave Play will be so legitimized?) The funny thing is that I enjoyed SP until I pondered it afterwards & then became quite angry about it. (An earlier posting about it that I shared here got completely erased by BW - so I dare utter the same "r*****"word of condemnation I expressed about it?) Inheritance caused me to want more while watching it, but left the theatre feeling so grateful for the
Luv this dreamlike encounter! So much better than similar constructs (BlueMan, Gadzillion, Stomp, Cirque du Soleil). The clown sketches (co. of 12) touched me, tapping into my inner child, but if you're not inclined that way, the interactive aspects will engage your senses.
Ladies dressed to the 9's with lacquered 'just right' hairdos for later events need to be forewarned to stay away from this one. The forceful in-your-face blower almost freaked me out when a piec
This is a hard call. The ENCORES! formula has always relied on classic musicals, thus the emphasis on full orchestras featuring lush romanticism or razzle dazzle over rock operas? I haven't seen any take on EVITA since "Prince of Bwy" presented a tad of its material (which unfortunately failed to resonate with me) & THE FILM, so long ago! I saw the orig. show in 1980 w/the alternate female lead & then 2nd acted it w/LuPone. Having POB not 'do it for me' actually

Bwy houses are definitely better off staying empty than selling out to poor quality fillers. Hallowed halls are reduced otherwise.

Just like our Facebook President, it's a sad state of affairs when a Shubert Bwy Theatre adds amateur crap to its real estate...it's no longer 'real'?

This is a fabulous double-bill that absolutely requires both parts (unless you're the type who loves leaving after Act 1 of something?) Yes, it's an investment of time (AND money) but it's worth it! See Howard's End prior, or not. Read the script prior, if you want? Just make sure you give yourself the opportunity to be a part of this masterpiece.

I found myself ultimately moved by this - but was also nodding off a bit. Not a great play & not a whole lot of scene-work worthy of its stars - but glad to have seen it.

So much wrong here! First off, this has NO PLACE in a Bwy Shubert house. Victory or New World Stages is where it should be. I attended its first weekend & the male lead was out. The performers are not sophisticated. The set & light package looked brought in for the day. Other than a spot, the house didn't seem to have aǹy instruments. I embarrassing left during intermission trying to disguise my leaving my seat with my backpack which one usher still noticed.

Sit as close as you can get. Set is not high & even descend s in the latter part
I was caught up in this, even with its l-o-n-g length. There is really very little set/props - minimalist platform for something conjured up by a co. of easy-going young gay men at communal table/memorial crypt - being schooled in the art of telling stories. You may find yourself disappointed at Act 1 & 2, but thankfully Act 3 provides a swelling cap-off. My favorite thing is the contrast Paul Hilton's E.M.Forster/teacher/Walter character provides, (even if that later marathon monolog
Jarethan, you missed the "disability-blind" aspect to the casting of Matthew Maher who doesn't merely have a lisp but speech probs impacted by hearing loss - or am I completely flummoxed in my perception here? (I would imagine an actor with a voice like that having a hard time getting cast in anything professional enough to warrant Obie attention as his bio. mentions, or am I being unkind?)
Frankly, all the blind casting of late is as tiring to me

Has no one who leans way forward in their balcony seat ever been behind someone who has done that & blocked their view - or is it that they are just so self-involved they don't care? So many times it is some jerk more than right in front of you so that it becomes something you can't try & request they sit back. A telescoping pointer I have imagined using many a time.
