I think all that matters is where you are in line. So if they only have two tickets, and you are first in line alone, you could buy a single ticket and only one ticket would remain for people behind you.
For lottery if you are by yourself is it easy/preferable to find someone to pair up with while you are in line?
I just created an account, and thought I should share my experience with the Hamilton cancellation line. I did the cancellation line today, 1/2/16 on a day with two shows and arrived at 6 AM (my friend joined me later). I was the first person in line, and the couple behind me got there at 7:30. The next person came at around 8, and after that a person would come about every 30 minutes. <
