I believe with job shares, their salary would be pro rated. Again, it’s not common on Broadway, but there was a big case recently that made the news in London about this and I know it’s been presented as a possible way of allowing more mothers in the theatre to work and spend time with their family.
Catsbroadwayfan said: "If an actor or actress are upset about 8 show weeks they shouldnt be doing theatre."
what if the producer is fine with two actors having a job share? You believe they shouldn’t do theatre because...why? You don’t like that they negotiated that? Not in terms of Frozen, but in terms if your blanket statement. There’s a lot of theatre besides broadway that don’t consistent of 8 show a week schedules with fanta

I personally think an 8 show week is fair, but have no problem if actors are negotiating lighter schedules. More power to them. That’s what agents are for.

There are a lot of people in the industry who are pushing the idea that the 8 show a week model is unsustainable and outdated, so it will be interesting to see 20-40 years from now how, if it all, performance schedules change.

No opinions about it one way or another, but it’s definitely a hot topic. This trickles down to companies trying to provide babysitting services to auditioning mothers. There’s a big push in this direction. And also, we don’t know what their contracts say. So until we do...there’s really nothing anyone can do but conjecture. Just because people knew about Alex Brightman’s 5/3 split doesn’t mean that these women don’t have a similar agreement, and that Disney just wants to keep mum about it. Woul

I wouldn’t be surprised if job shares become more popular in the future. Mothers in the West End are already doing this. If I had to bet, you’ll see more performers sharing roles in the future as the industry continues to push back against the 8 show a week model they currently perform under (which many are very unhappy with).

Well we can agree to disagree! The beauty of these threads is looking back and seeing what actually happened. I’ll have to be the lone voice of support for Ain’t Too Proud I guess (which i haven’t seen, just repeating what I have heard from industry friends and Producers who have named this the dark horse to watch out for), but I really do think you guys are in for a surprise when it comes in.

It has been breaking box office records left and right and word of mouth has been crazy good, what are you guys talking about? Reviews were ok, they can easily change by Broadway. Laugh all you want, but Ain’t Too Proud is coming in strong.

The thing that bothers me is that Kim DOES NOT kill herself over Chris. She literally sings a line something to the effect of “you can turn you back on what we had, but you’ll come back tonight for him”. She’s sad about Chris, devastated, but she loves her son more. And that, to me, is the beauty of the show. It’s not a love story about man and woman, it’s a love story about mother and child. At some point, the focus transitions from Chris to Tam, and it’s her acceptance of the dissolution of th

Lots of reasons for this. One, as actors go from show to show their social media presence grows, and then the cycle begins of the next show wanting an actor with a large social media presence. 2., casting companies are not super creative and have files of the same people that they bring in for everything. Over and over. Over. And. Over. 3. Directors do the same thing. Casey Nichelow transferred his cast from the Prom to Mean Girls. And lots of other reasons as well.
Funny Girl Broadway Revival? Lady gaga? Oct 10

You need someone FUNNY for this. Like. ACTUALLY FUNNY. Let someone like Natalie Walker make her Broadway debut in this or someone from the comedy/standup/improv world with vocal chops. Jessie Mueller is like...amusing? So talented, but comic actress first...not sold.

Tracy is so ahead of her time. The show could have ended when she was cast on the show. A victory for Tracy against her sizeist community. What makes Tracy an exceptional character is her refusal to stop fighting until *everyone* can be on be the show. She is a true pioneer for intersectionality. And her decision to let her boyfriend go because of it. As we all try to grapple with our family members and loved ones who may be more focused with how to improve their own lives than the lives of thos

Would a Legally Blonde Revival be a bad idea? Oct 6

Oh yeah, I definitely envision an overhauled production. Ellle is a really beautiful character and I think this material has the potential to be crafted into something quite interesting. Small scale. I would want no sort of pandering to the problems our society is dealing with, just a more deeply written female character that is trying to succeed in the face of many real obstacles.

With everything that’s been happening in the world lately between Kavenaugh and #metoo, I can’t help but think that both the film and the musical were a bit ahead of their time. Something tells me with a really smart director and a grounded approach, a Legally Blonde revival could be really beautiful right now, especially for young women. Thoughts? Am I nuts?
