I also feel like Be More Chill is trying really hard to be a hit and be current/contemporary, which is exactly the opposite of the message the show is trying to get across.
I really wanted to love this one

I saw the show’s matinee today (2/23) and George was out again. However, his understudy completely stole the show.
I was really excited to see this show, having enjoyed reading the book back in high school. I have to say, I was very disappointed. It’s really not very good.
This show is like Evan Hansen, Mean Girls, and Little Shop had a baby except that baby didn’t inherit any of the good qualities of its parents.
The only memorable song is “Michael In the Bathroom.” I

I love Lady Gaga. I’m a huge fan and I think she’s an incredible singer and actress. But I just can’t hear her as Elphaba. Her voice doesn’t fit it, in my opinion. There is a certain quality to elphaba’s vocals and Gaga doesn’t seem like the right choice. She’s be able to sing it, but I think it would sound odd.
I’d love an unknown for our two witches, but if they have to cast a pop star as Elphaba I can picture Nicole Scherzinger or Demi Lovato pulling it off nicely. Maybe Dove Cameron

That score is a beast for Evan. I can’t help but worry that a 16 y/o boy could damage his voice doing that show that many times a week. If they wanted the publicity of a teenager playing the role, I almost wish they’d cast two boys and have them rotate. The male voice at that age just might not be mature enough for this.
That being said, I’d love to be proved wrong and be blown away by him!

I have to say that I agree with some of these mixed reviews. I saw the show on Tuesday and Urie is incredible, but it was awkward when they would reference the character as heavier set and unnattractice. Urie is trim and gorgeous... I do think he is miscast. They should’ve cut the lines in the script about his size and stuff.
The puppet is incredible. Truly a spectacle and worth all the praise it’s getting.
However, the show itself was awful. The book and score are terrible. There are really only a few full songs and it’s otherwise a play with music. The choreography doesn’t seem to fit the world and is very distracting.

Any word on a discount code for this? I’m one of those rare theater queens who has never seen this show live. I was hoping for a more exciting cast, so I’m now hoping for a more exciting discount
The two understudies that went on were Becca Kotte for the role of Dani Franco (Kelli Barrett) and Lindsay Brett Carothers went on for Tawney Truebody (normally Becca’s role)
Both did great.

I saw this last night and it was just embarrassingly bad. The cast is very talented, but the material is awful. Though I will say that a lot of the audience seemed to genuinely enjoy it and was laughing a lot. Also kudos to the two understudies that went on, especially the lead’s love interest. She had a great voice and did really well.
But yeah... pass on this show. I’m just thankful I had a comp.

Does anyone know when Ann Harada will be goin on for Christmas Eve in these anniversary performances? On their website they have special guests listed for certain days, but Ann is never on the lists. However, she’s in the press release and in an Instagram photo. She’s the one original cast member that I really care about seeing.
