If you could revive any Broadway flop?  May 8 2018, 05:17:12 PM

Having suffered through the Doyle version at Classic Stage, I'd love to see what Bartlett Sher and his big budget at Lincoln Center could do with Pacific Overtures.

Pre-1920s Songs  May 4 2018, 08:45:10 PM

Check out the recordings by William Bolcom and his wife, mezzo-soprano Joan Morris.  Here's the song list from one of their records (sorry, can't help with the backing)::

Aaron Sorkin's TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD Adaptation to premiere on Broadway December 13, 2018  May 2 2018, 08:16:47 AM

Tom5 said: "Two questions. 1. How could someone as smart as Rudin have entered into a contract which left him with such exposure? 2. The judge really doesn't know how to read a script? What is he, a producer?!"

In my career I've negotiated and written a lot of contracts.  I'm speculating here, but sometimes the two sides go back and forth and settle on ambiguous language that neither side is happy with, but agree on to get the deal done. Most times t

Rant about the 2018 TONY nominations here  May 1 2018, 04:21:00 PM

Balcony Bill said: "I guess it would be too much to ask that the people announcing the names of the nominees could actually pronounce them properly..Katharine McPhee seemed to never have seen the word Farinelli before and had to have her co-host tell her how to pronounce the word live on camera..as if this was some bizarre, obscure name that no one could be expected to pronounce...As if she was a tourist from Iowa dragged in off of the street and told to read the cue cards with no ti

My Fair Lady - Service and Handling Fees  May 1 2018, 12:33:44 PM

FWIW, I think Broadway.com gets a bad rap on this board.  Yes, the fees are higher than Ticketmaster or Telecharge, but not by as much as you may think, and as haterobics says they offer good seats that aren't available on the other sites.  I bought tickets to 3 events on Ticketmaster recently and was charged between $35 and $54 per ticket in various fees and service charges. So, don't beat yourself up over an extra few bucks.

TKTS Question  May 1 2018, 07:25:18 AM

I second the StubHub suggestion.  I needed another ticket at the last minute a couple of weeks ago, and got one in the middle of Row C for half of what I paid months ago for another one in the same row.

HELLO, DOLLY! Sets August 25 Closing Date; Bette Midler to Return July 17  Apr 27 2018, 08:18:43 AM

According to the HD website, tickets for Bette's return dates will go on sale tomorrow (4/28) at 10AM.

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child Seating/Pricing Thread  Apr 7 2018, 07:48:53 AM

I'll be in NY for a week the end of April.  I wanted to see HP and signed up for the Ticketmaster Verified Fan but didn't get in, and there were no tickets available when I was planning my trip. Now suddenly there are tickets each day I'll be in town but I have no time in my schedule.  I bought premium tickets for October, but I'm seriously thinking of returning them and saying the hell with it.  I've had it with being jerked around for the privilege of hand

MY FAIR LADY (2018) Previews  Mar 16 2018, 12:24:52 PM

Thanks to all who are posting about the first preview.  I'm seeing this next month, shortly after it opens, and I'll be curious to see if the ending stays as you all describe. I don't have a problem with changing it from the movie (which I didn't like), but if the audience is confused about whether it's really happening or Higgins is dreaming it sounds like it needs some work.

I'm rereading "Everything Was Possible", about the original production

NYcat63:  Here are pix of the Lyric close to your choice of seats.  I know the theater is being renovated for HP, but these might give you an idea of the stage views.

When I got on the site at noon, I was about #45,000 in line (!), but got in after waiting only half an hour. I ended up with 2 ORCHR, Row M premium seats in October.  I was offered seats in Dress Circle C and E, but for that price I wanted Orchestra, and not too far back. It seems I got in just in time, as most dates are sold out now.

Sorry, another Hamilton seating question!  Oct 13 2017, 04:16:24 PM

Front row mezz.  We sat Row A seats 20-22 and they were great.

Barbara Cook Has Passed  Aug 8 2017, 07:04:47 PM

The only time I saw Barbara Cook in person was her Sondheim show at the Byham Theater in Pittsburgh in 2003.  The place was packed, and the audience loved her. She was glorious. Sad news, but her pain is gone. RIP.

Do You Remember Your First Time?  Jun 30 2017, 02:51:37 PM

First stage production was Danny Kaye in a one-man show near our home in Pawtucket, Rhode Island in the late 1950s. I was about 6. I remember the fuss about being allowed to go, and the pretty dress I got to wear, more than anything about his performance. :)

Tony performance choices  Jun 12 2017, 09:49:09 AM

Only Great Comet, Bandstand and Come From Away were what I'd call traditional performance choices.  You know, songs from nominated shows that make someone in the hinterlands want to see them.  Some were boring (Groundhog Day, War Paint--didn't think it was possible to make LuPone and Ebersole boring but they managed), incomprehensible (Falsettos, Dear Evan Hansen, Miss Saigon), or maddening (Hello Dolly).

Maybe in some of the more 'serious' musicals,

Glenne Headley has passed away.  Jun 10 2017, 09:35:34 AM

Such sad news. She had great talent, and should have been a big star after Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, one of my favorite comedic film performances. Apparently the cause was a pulmonary embolism.

Bad Theater Behavior  May 22 2017, 07:28:04 AM

"If you see people taking pictures during a performance and it's bothering you tell an usher. Having said that, during the song "Hello, Dolly!" people were taking video and pictures which I didn't notice, but there was an usher who ran down the aisles making so much noise to try and stop these people that it was so distracting. I get it that they have a job to do, but they don't have to go trudging up and down the aisles during the performance."

Barbara Cook has retired  May 9 2017, 08:25:41 PM

I only got to see her once, almost 15 years ago in Pittsburgh at the Byham Theater.  Wonderful.

One of my all-time favorites Youtube videos is the Kennedy Center Honors performance for her from 2011:  Laura Osnes, Kelli O'Hara, Rebecca Luker, Glenn Close, Sutton Foster, Patti LuPone and Audra McDonald performing individually, then the finale was Make Our Garden Grow from Candide with all the ladies, a chorus and orchestra.  WOW!
