Saw this last night. Don't know how well it's selling on other nights but the balcony was at about 70% and mezz was at about 50%. We had no trouble moving down.
Show is a real mixed bag. Set is clever but not groundbreaking or great. Costumes are good but not Long's best. Lighting is good. Now for the bad -- sound mix, orchestrations, and most of the songs. There are a few good songs, but not enough.
The first act is a slog at 70 m
Sondheim status? Jan 9

So the ‘Exterminating Angel’ opera has come and gone and the last glimmer of news on Sondheim’s latest musical was Lin-Manuel Miranda noting six months ago that Sondheim was writing due to an upcoming deadline. And no news since the workshop of the first act about a year ago
So is this project still on or has it quietly been shuffled into the dustbin?
Sondheim's "Bunuel" was supposed to have a full workshop at the Public last month. Did that happen and if so does anyone have the skinny on the show? If not, is a workshop still in the works? Thanks
there are 4 sides (balcony only has 3 as orchestra is in the 4th). Sitting facing the orchestra is probably best but we were under the orchestra and they were great seats.
Saw it last night and agree that it is stunning. We also saw the original Broadway production a few days before opening night in 1997 and this is better. More intimate and more massive, which strangely aren't contradictions in this production. Beautifully sung and the standout for me was the guy who played the telegraph operator -- a wonder performance full of the appropriate pathos. We were sitting underneath the orchestra, but despite not have a direct view of the musi
Saw it Sunday night and there were plenty of empty seats, perhaps due to Halloween eve (eve). Show was fun but pretty forgettable. A very contrived storyline and fairly predictable pop songs that had absolutely no thematic unity, the show barrels along well due to the terrific lead performances. But this is really like a 3rd rate 1960s show that might have gotten a cast recording but dumped in the remainders bin after a few months. Teen in front of us spent a lot of th
Between 'Gold', "Wise Guys', 'Bounce' and 'Road Show', he might have benefited from having as many good options to choose from and settle on one early on, IMHO :).
Working title is 'Bunuel'. How about 'Reservations'? Seems a possibility since it's about diners trying to eat at a restaurant, and based on the two films, they certainly have reservations about their lives. Or perhaps it's too coy a title for Sondhei
Saw it Sunday night. Terrific staging and great performances with mulitple stages scattered throughout the theater. Highly entertaining. However, like the original production, which I also saw, Jelly was a bastard and the fact he ends up in Hell does not really make you care much about him
Still wort every penny and probably better than Shuffle Along
Can anyone tell me what the current running time is for this -- doesn't seem to be posted anywhere. They have a 2pm matinee on June 12 and hoping to make a 5:05pm Amtrak train. Thanks.
Was there this afternoon. Both are orAtorios with a rather forced connection. The Harvey Milk part was definitely better and more varied. The First half featured Chenowith more but to little avail as the piece was rather one-note. I applaud the effort but the result was half-baked.
