THE PROM – A Personal Opinion  Dec 13 2020, 02:16:41 PM

I’m not saying this is a great movie musical, but it’s a highly enjoyable one, the kind that makes us want to dance and puts a smile on our hearts! The world needs more musicals like this!

BROADWAY SEASON 2018-2019 – THE MUSICALS  Apr 1 2020, 02:45:41 PM

On my blog JORGE’S PLACE I’ve just posted a page with images from all the musicals, new ones and revivals, which opened on Broadway during the 2018-2019 Season; plus the City Center Encores! series. Some became hits, others closed in a few weeks, but I believe all of them are worthy of celebration.

ALADDIN - A Movie Review  May 26 2019, 02:04:55 PM

I believe that, like me, fans of the original will have a good time seeing it, but keep in mind this isn’t as good as that one and how could it be? So, keep an open mind and enjoy the magic of it!

CAST RECORDINGS OF 2018: A PERSONAL LOOK  Feb 3 2019, 03:12:29 PM

"I’m not disagreeing with you, just curious what you mean."

I meant that I was expecting something more entertaining, with at least a couple of songs that would stand on their own. It was a close race between PRETTY WOMAN and FROZEN.

CAST RECORDINGS OF 2018: A PERSONAL LOOK  Feb 2 2019, 10:42:32 AM

This is one of the best movies I saw this year! Don’t miss it and let Mary Poppins magic live in you; it’s good to be a child again!

COMPANY – London 1995: A Theatre Review  Oct 26 2018, 01:55:46 PM

Now that a new production of COMPANY opened in London, it’s time for me to revisit the 1995 Donmar Warehouse production. I was lucky to saw it twice; first at the Donmar and, a few months later, at the Albery Theatre for where it was transferred. I love it both times and, on my blog JORGE’S PLACE, I’m sharing the “review” I wrote back in 1995. I was 31 years old at the time… how time flies!

A STAR IS BORN – A Movie Review  Oct 18 2018, 02:47:44 PM

Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga are great in the fourth movie version of this award winning story, but the movie lost some of its power on the second half, but there’s plenty to enjoy here.

MAMMA MIA! HERE WE GO AGAIN – A Movie Review  Jul 22 2018, 02:41:34 PM

Here we go again through Abba’s songbook and back to the dreamy Greek island where the action takes place. This time the story is uninteresting and everything seems kind of forceful.

DESPERATE MEASURES: A CD Review  Jul 22 2018, 10:04:56 AM

A new Shakespeare musical adaptation, this time in western mode, with an unpretentious score and more than a couple of good songs.

AN AMERICAN IN PARIS – London Production: A Screening Review  Jul 15 2018, 04:09:54 PM

I confess I never care that much for the MGM movie, so I was taken by surprise when I attend the movie screening of the London production and fell in love with the musical. It’s a fabulous show and I strongly recommend it!

PLAY IT AGAIN, MARVIN! A MARVIN HAMLISCH CELEBRATION: A CD Review  May 20 2018, 03:22:12 PM

This live recording is a highly enjoyable way of celebrating the melodious music of Marvin Hamlisch, the man responsible for, among others, the score of A CHORUS LINE and one of the most romantic songs ever written, “The Way We Were”. Don’t miss it!

Heck, even the recent National Theatre production of FOLLIES has been transferred into a fan-made DVD."

My list only includes DVD that were official released, so those
