RUTHLESS! The Musical (1993 Los Angeles)  Dec 18 2020, 06:06:20 PM
I saw that Los Angeles production and it was tremendous. So vivid that all these years later I can still remember the cast of all these different moments.

Broadway Cast moral code?  Nov 1 2020, 04:05:31 PM

RIP Conchata Ferrell  Oct 14 2020, 02:45:39 AM
Way before her fame I knew of her for two stage roles of plays that my college did in the 70s. Hotel Baltimore where she was the hooker April. And then the drama The Sea Horse, a two hander where she starred as Gertrude opposite the author, Edward J. Moore. She won awards for that dramatic performance. It’s such a powerful script. Of course in those days I didn’t see these as they were during my last two years of high school. Before the Internet and YouTube you just had to hear about them or re

Tiny moments that have stuck with you  Oct 6 2020, 06:36:11 PM
In the original production of Falsettos on Broadway the moment that has stuck with all these years. In the final scene in the hospital room when Whizzer dies and Marvin is standing there numb, Jason goes and takes his hand. That was so powerful. I missed that moment greatly in the revival (especially considering that James Lapine directed both.)

He also did a series of master classes re-creating the choreography from his shows in the West End and Dolly on Broadway. I took the Mary Poppins one which I saw him in in London. The choreography was extremely difficult unless you’re trained dancer like he is and maybe two people in the class.

And he’s been working on his new house remodeling it.

People Who Saw Shows That Now Live In Infamy, What Was Your Experience At Said Show?  Aug 9 2020, 10:05:12 PM
I don’t know about living infamy but I saw Rags which happened to be running the few days I was in New York. Dick Latessa in Judy Kuhn we’re standouts. I’d heard one of the best visuals was the Statue of Liberty on stage. I was in the orchestra but on the side when that scene came I realized I could not see the statue so I ran up to go to the back orchestra so I could see it. The Asher yelled at me no changing seats. I said I’m gonna see the Statue of Liberty. I’m guessing she’ll have a job in

Ellen's Stardust Diner Closing?  Jul 20 2020, 11:00:18 PM
I boycotted them ever since I found out how they treated their staff. It’s a prime location. It be great if somebody decent started something new there.

Do You Have a Famous Look-Alike?  Jul 20 2020, 03:47:30 AM
Back in 1973 or 1974 Tommy tune had won the Tony award for Seesaw so I knew who he was From watching the awards. So at that time I was 6 foot three but extremely skinny and has long straight hair so I looked a lot like him. In fact I played him in a skit for a variety show. So my first trip to New York I met up with a friend of mine who is going to school there. So we went to see a show for the matinee and then he is going to meet us after the show. And he literally ran into Tommy Tune but this

Applause Revival Due  Jul 20 2020, 03:43:36 AM

I would say there’s just too much wrong with Applause to make it work today. But in the 70s I was ready for a revival already with some of the big stars. I saw the video of the London All About Eve with Gillian Anderson. While it’s a better show than Applause I didn’t love it. Mostly because of Ivo’s direction.

This thread brought back memories of the 70s when I played Duane Fox, the Leroy Reems role at dinner theatre. Having a gay character seeme

OUR TOWN revival starring Dustin Hoffman; Bartlett Sher directs  Jun 30 2020, 11:07:56 PM

I saw the Cromer production in Santa Monica. The best part of it was sitting next to Helen Hunt who played the stage manager. There were some great moments. Especially the reveal when Emily goes back was brilliant. I did not love Emily and George getting married in blue jeans. The production just looked flat. And my least favorite part was since they didn’t have an ensemble to play the smaller roles so they gave audience members lines to read and they were god awful.

They def

George Salazar Calls Out Tony Awards on Twitter  Jun 28 2020, 07:26:50 PM
He needs to get over it and himself. I listened to the score and I’d liked to couple of the songs. I did enjoy Michael in the Bathroom. I was in New York I had a slot left open for show. There were only small discounts for Be More Chill in advance . I got in the TKTS line for the first time in probably 10 years. I got a half-price center orchestra seat in the sixth row so I thought I would go. Not only did I not care for the show I considered George Salazar’s performance the least appealin

re: re: re: re: re: Ann Miller Stories?  Jun 28 2020, 03:15:32 AM
I had a friend who did a show with Ann Miller years ago. It was like summer stock or something she was brought in for that show. When she got there she informed the company no one is to ever speak to me, no wants to ever touch me. One night the set caught her costume and drug her across the stage. No one touched her.

She got what she asked for but I guess the stage manager had to untangle her.

Meryl Streep, Patti LuPone, more to perform for virtual Sondheim 90th birthday celebration  Apr 26 2020, 09:47:52 PM
Beanie has been doing musicals since she was a little girl so I’m not sure why it would be surprising that she’s a great singer.

Buyer and Cellar Livestream  Apr 19 2020, 10:39:23 PM
I saw it live with Michael as well. It was even better with the close-up shots and I’m very impressed that he either re-learned it for this broadcast or he never forgot it. I saw two or other three actors tackle the show and they all were fine but no one can hold a candle to Michael’s performance. I sort of pictured Barbra Streisand and James Brolin at home watching it tonight. It was rumored she was going to see it in LA right after she saw Bette Midler as her former agent. But then she said
