Am I racist, or are you going to condescend to call me a race-traitor who doesn't have the intelligence to understand when he should and shouldn't be offended?
Anyway the only people complaining about a black woman playing the maid are the Progressive <<edited by BWW staff for a personal attack>> that I will continue to harp on on this board.
As has been noted--as if it's relevant--there is also a black person playing Archibald Craven, the master of the estate.
Nice to know that there will be people not paying attention to the story and focusing on "optics",

I'm a Black performer. The agent is correct. I disagree with Dave's assertion that quotas should be enforced by any means. But his broader point is one worth debating: how does one quantify "diversity", and what does it mean precisely, other than "fewer white people"? How do we know we've reached our "diversity" goals? IS there a chart or an equation??
At any rate I do have many hard-working and skilled white friends that are in some cases being supplanted by people I personally know to
Gender Based Awards? Apr 26

I have to add that it's astounding to me that so many here would assume that men would still win a disproportionate number of awards.
Think you so little of women and gender nonconformists? Why are you automatically assuming that men will win? Do you understand how bigoted and misogynistic that sounds?
Ironically I took out a line in my previous post regarding this, because I predict the OPPOSITE, that given the current climate FEWER men will be given awards, ESPECIALLY if the
Gender Based Awards? Apr 26

Honestly I would be against this coming to NYC. There are very few award-worthy actors, and still fewer gender nonconformists. While I recognize that the performing arts industry has an incredibly high proportion of non-conforming individuals, it still strikes me as unlikely that there would ever be enough award-worthy gender non-conformists to warrant such a radical change in policy.
Personally I think those who've gone against the grain should be given a SPECIAL DISTINCTION, rather t

Here is a flagrantly racist comment, "happily" put forth by Tom5. Is anyone going to
King Kong Casting Apr 25

Bwayfan do not cave to these people, nothing you wrote was racist in the slightest. The fact that you've been beaten into saying that your views are "not ok" is concerning to me, and to be frank it's getting tiresome to see people use the phrase "that is not ok" in order to police behavior and ideas that they simply don't like, regardless of their validity or worthiness for debate and discussion.
It's a simple question about colorblind casting. I'll actually answer the question, instea

Jamie Foxx is a good singer and performer but has neither the singing chops nor stage experience to convincingly pull off Coalhouse Walker. Sorry, but it's a ludicrous suggestion.
The arrogant and pretentious replies from the Far Left extremists (who do not realize that they are extremists) on this board, which dominate our industry, only serve as further evidence why more and more people are refusing to align themselves with so-called "Liberals" and "Progressives", who are driving ACTUAL liberals far, far away.
How many more elections (or referendums, if you're British) d
No disrespect intended to either performer, but if the show's producers were hoping for high viewership and ratings this was not a great choice.
Really a shame, too...especially after the recent success of live musicals (not to mention the Big "Ham"), Broadway is more apart of the cultural landscape than it has been in recent memory. This seems like a tonedeaf choice.
We want MORE ratings and exposure; I realize Mr. Groban is popular but I'm not sure if he'll b

"Kelli O'Hara managed to be wonderful with a wooden actor and in a semi-staged production, sometimes even a good performer like Mueller can't connect with a role, it happens."
Good for Ms. O'Hara. I touched on the difficulty of the material Ms. Mueller is contending with as a possible contributing factor in my original post.

"I raised the same question. There’s so much talent and it seems (i haven’t seen it yet but based on others peoples posts) that Jessie Mueller is under utilized. After coming from Beautiful and Waitress - you got to wonder."
Mueller is a deeply intuitive actress, and part of her strength lies in her great instincts and in-the-moment presence. Bearing in mind that nobody ever sets out to put up a BAD Broadway production, if the reports about her performance being weak are to be believed
Colorblind casting rarely works in "reverse" because many plays centering around non-white characters feature ethnicity as a central facet of the given circumstances of the story. Ergo, "A Raisin in the Sun" would not work with any cast other than what was specifically called for by Lorraine Hansberry, whereas "Much Ado" holds up, regardless of multi-ethnic casting.
Anyway,

Nice, so the Progressive Racists are already dooming the show with their nonsense? I hope the show succeeds and runs and runs and runs if that's the case.
Lots of discount options, very accessible and family-friendly. The most common criticism I've seen of the show tends to come from snobs who complain that it isn't Noises Off, but the show isn't aiming to be high brow and succeeds brilliantly at what it does. Your kids will love it.
jbird5 said: "Don’t forget they have many iterations of this show running all over the world. Not to mention TV specials. The thing’s a goldmine. They could afford to subsidize this production to keep a US/Broadway presence."
This is key.

I am a Black performer. There has never been a better time to be one, yet I am still supposed to believe that I am being discriminated against for some reason.
I understand now that all my years of classical training (at an elite institution), and my years working with the best of the best both here and regionally mean nothing--it's more important that I'm Black so that those in charge can feel better about themselve
