Peter Dinklage in Cyrano  May 7 2018, 01:17:34 PM

His wife is the adapter and director. So there you go.

Angels In America/Berkeley Rep Reviews.  May 1 2018, 10:28:38 AM

Does anyone know why Randy Danson isn't in the production anymore? She was there when rehearsals started in February but now she seems to have been replaced by a different actress. Ms. Danson is a favorite of mine and is one of the reasons why I booked tickets.

SAINT JOAN (2018) Previews  Apr 4 2018, 12:15:42 PM
I was at the first preview as well. I agree that it looks like they just had a free-for-all in the rehearsal hall. This production is definitely all about the set. It overwhelms everything, even Shaw’s language.
There was a phenomenal production of Saint Joan done at the Shaw Festival last season, if anyone saw that production you can definitely skip this one.

MY FAIR LADY (2018) Previews  Mar 15 2018, 08:22:37 PM

Last evening’s invited dress rehearsal ran 3 hours and 40 minutes including a 20 minute intermission and 1 stop for technical difficulties. I’m assuming tonight’s first preview will be much shorter.

ROCKTOPIA?  Dec 9 2017, 02:14:45 PM

So, this was just on PBS a few nights ago...where we can all watch it for free, do they really expect people to pay $160 to see this on Broadway? It's only a 6 week run, even if the running costs are minimal how can they make any money? Other than the website and initial press release has there been any advertising? This has tax write off written all over it.

GLORY DAYS (2008)  Aug 11 2017, 11:58:36 AM

This is bringing back so many random memories from almost 10 years ago!

I'm remembering that:

Alex Brightman, now of School of Rock fame, was an understudy for Glory Days. As he tells it, they (not sure who "they" are) were considering firing Jesse JP Johnson and replacing him with Brightman. This has never been corroborated by anyone else ever. But interestingly Brightman and Johnson both went on to play Boq in Wicked at various points. <

GLORY DAYS (2008)  Aug 11 2017, 12:29:06 AM

I was dating someone involved with the production at the time and had to sit through a couple of previews as well as the awkward opening/closing night. The party that followed that performance was also awkward because half the people there knew that the show had closed prematurely and half of them didn't.

The show absolutely had no reason to be on Broadway. The two main producers had been associate producers on other projects and wanted to make

Head Over Heels  Jul 18 2017, 09:03:35 PM

Just to clarify, the OSF production was never 4 hours long, it did clock in at 3 hours, but never 4. I should know, I was there. It was indeed racist, homophobic and transphobic and that was confusing as OSF seems to pride itself on diversity or what they consider diversity. The book was absolutely atrocious and the songs were indeed just shoehorned in. The design of that original production was also odd and not remotely cohesive. They seemed to think it would have li

IN TRANSIT Previews  Dec 29 2016, 12:06:41 PM

I was at a holiday party and ran into a cast member from In Transit, it turns out we have mutual friends. Naturally we talked about the show. They said that the cast and crew are shocked that they are still running and haven't posted a closing notice yet. Apparently one of the cast members is leaving and they've hired a replacement, which means they think it's going to keep going. They also said that while no one is sure what the weekly nut is, they know they have never come close

How Much Longer Does IN TRANSIT Have?  Dec 21 2016, 12:54:11 AM

Same here! This must be way more of a vanity project than we first thought.

IN TRANSIT Previews  Dec 10 2016, 03:32:27 PM

Actually, looking at their numbers, and predicting their lackluster reviews, I wouldn't be surprised if they close on the 18th.

Royal Court production of Martin McDonagh's  Dec 6 2016, 11:34:16 AM

Sadly it isn't. It was going to be the MTC spring show at the Friedman but it has been replaced by Little Foxes. Basically the cast and director of Hangmen said either we all do it on Broadway or none of us do it on Broadway and that wasn't logistically or financially possible for MTC, which is odd because thats exactly what they did with that horrible Pitmen Painters. I was lucky enough to see Hangmen in the West End and the NT Live version is pretty good if it ever gets re-screened.

IN TRANSIT Previews  Nov 15 2016, 09:46:32 PM

I got a comp, along with most of the other attendees, to see this last weekend. I would have rather watched Glory Days and In My Life again. The a cappella gag gets old after 10 minutes. The gay story line, as stated above, is offensive and there was an audible groan at the "frozen" gag. That treadmill seems like a waste of money, they should have bought better wigs.

I noticed the performers are wearing ear monitors. Are they listening to a click track or

Bronx Tale Windows PC Commercial  Oct 9 2016, 07:56:05 PM

So basically the set for A Bronx Tale the musical is every community theater set from West Side Story ever?

Vacant houses this Fall?  Jun 28 2016, 05:47:19 PM

Ralph Fiennes said in a recent interview that the production of Richard III he's currently doing in London will be transferring to the West End in the fall so that means that a transfer of The Master Builder is unlikely this season.

Sadly it looks like a transfer of Photograph 51 isn't happening either. They would've announced dates by now if it were happening.

OH,HELLO to the Lyceum.  Jun 26 2016, 11:18:07 PM

They put out their press release at 10pm on a Sunday night? Interesting.

Where is Amelie, The Bandstand, Groundhod Day, and War Paint going?  Jun 19 2016, 01:08:44 PM

War Paint is going into the Nederlander after Motown.

Shows Dark on Election Night.  Jun 17 2016, 11:12:07 PM

I'm starting to shop around for tickets to the new crop of Fall Broadway shows and I'm noticing that most shows, new and already running are dark on election night in November. I've lived in NYC for a few decades and I've never known shows to do that. Is this because producers realized that most folks will be glued to their televisions that night or are they afraid of possible rioting in Times Square etc?

Wonderful dance  May 23 2016, 12:02:47 AM

it varies depending on who's playing the Wizard. It was cut when George Hearn took over for Joel Grey and  added back in when Ben Vereen came into the show. The current broadway wizard, Peter Scolari doesn't do the dance.

Next at Belasco  May 21 2016, 12:21:39 PM

The Old Vic production of The Master Builder with Ralph Fiennes and People Places and Things from London's National have both quietly said they were coming to Broadway this fall but no official announcements have been made. One of them could definitely go into The Belasco. Also, Dear Evan Hansen hasn't announced a theatre yet for it's Broadway move, I know the producers want The Booth but it's not available until spring so they could always take The Belasco if they w
