A doctor just out of college was sent to post in the depths of Russia in 1917. Alone, without experience, it can only rely on himself. For the first patient, it takes him a girl whose leg was crushed by a farm machine ...

In this poignant and yet full of self-deprecating humor and stories, this is a year in the life of a country doctor that we not follow step. We discover doubts, successes and failures.

The story is largely autobiographical. Between 1916 and 1917, Bulgakov exercised in a small hospital run by the Red Cross, located in the village of Nikolskoia. The certificate issued to him at the end of this year the practice described as "energetic and tireless worker."

In the 1920s, Bulgakov abandoned medicine for literature. His satirical comedies win a huge success, but the proletarian criticism unleashed against him. Anti-Soviet, is deeply committed to Russia and humanism. His pieces are removed from the display. Under Stalin, the victim of censorship, Bulgakov is neither played nor published. His great novel The Master and Margarita, is published in the USSR only twenty-six years after his death, thirteen years after Stalin's.

While it deals with the most serious of the totalitarian world, the work of Bulgakov problems is remarkably recreational. His plots are always easy to follow. Topics varied, are exciting. In his family circle, he was an inexhaustible storyteller funny and captivating stories.
