... World War I is not far away. We discover five young people who are just barely 20 years old - two men, three women. They are dreaming of other horizons. Far away from their parents, from the "province", from the established order, from all these fetters that prevent them from living. We discover them in the middle of their questioning. Between friendships and loves that (un)fold, intimate desires, fear of tomorrow, unrestrained romanticism and gentle utopias... Une année sans été is an invitation to reflect on the passage from adolescence to adulthood, self-fulfillment , the sense of responsibility, artistic creation, love and death ... unvarnished scenography, work on the void and darkness, a play of lights maintaining the confusion between the real and the imaginary ... Joel Pommerat remains true to his theatrical line approaching once again various existential questions with brio and sobriety. Both deep and accessible, light and obscure, subtle but never puzzling. An enterprise all the more legitimate since this time it is performed on stage by young actors that the company Louis Brouillard decided to take under its wing. A companionship in situ that gives to this play on youth a little more soul.
