I’m Nicole Bates and I am going into my sophomore year at the University of Massachusetts Amherst as a theatre and communications double major. I have been performing from a young age in various facets, as a musician, an actor, a dancer, and I have dabbled in film acting. Some of my favorite roles include Miranda in The Tempest and the Minstrel in Once Upon a Mattress. Though I am a performer, my passions extend beyond just performing; I also love to create art whether it be writing music and short stories or even a little bit of directing. One of my primary goals in college has is to find more time to work on creating my own art. I am really excited to have this outlet to share my writing and advice with other college students who share a mutual love for theatre.

Taking care of yourself and staying organized is so important in college, but it can be difficult because of the lifestyle of most college students. In your freshman year, it is easy to get overwhelmed by all the coursework, new people, new environment and multitude of options for extracurriculars, so it is essential that you take time to check in with yourself and take care of your mind and body.
