Izumi discovered her love for playwriting accidentally while in college. An advanced playwriting class desperately sought students, so Izumi signed up despite not taking the beginner's class. During her senior year of college, she wrote a full-length play. When she watched the staged reading, she realized her truth.

He does this to be hired by his ex-wife as a nanny after losing custody of his children in the divorce. And we have to give a round of applause for his real-life leading lady, Lakis, who dazzles as the believable, underappreciated, exasperated ex-wife.

What did our critic think of GIRL FROM NORTH COUNTRY at Straz Center? On March 27, I experienced GIRL FROM NORTH COUNTRY at the Straz Center, a production on stage until March 31. Conor McPherson's direction and Simon Hale's Tony Award-winning orchestrations breathe new life into 20 of Bob Dylan's legendary songs, including anthems like 'Hurricane' and 'Forever Young.'

Working with a cast of 22 dancers, teen through millennial, Colon's vision for the Next Generation Ballet 'On Your Feet' medley is a movement storyline with many choreography changes and using bodies as scene changes, directing the eye to where to go. Most of the piece is Jazz dancing with a little Latin flair.

The dancers use props, ropes, costumes, lighting, and music to create stunning visual effects that defy gravity and logic. They transform, using their bodies as expressive tools.

The Straz website describes TIME'S TESTIMONY as 'a play on words as it depicts the testimony of a man who goes through a trial of falling, manipulation, discovery, and redemption. It also touches on the irony of time changing a calloused heart. As a man navigates through the challenges of addiction and pride, his wife persists in her faith to see a change in him. Through great resistance and challenging encounters, this story takes its audience through the ups and downs of living in a household where things never seem right. Where faith is tested, outcomes may be unforeseen.'

Directed by Chris Walsh and choreographed by Zan Raynor, the colossal cast features Michael DeWolf, Annaliese Bradford, Kristina Marier, Jeremiah Pyle, Kyle Carothers, Teralyn Mergillano, Arlene Pijuan, Ben Tague, Stephanie Ackley Taylor, Tucker Martinez, Wayne Kober, and the ensemble of Madeline Abbott, Madilyn Reed Brown, Mickey Brown, Michelle Dissler, Miles Dissler, Krystalyn Drown, Dare Higgins, Kirstie Kelly, Cheri Kober, Andrew Martinez, Alicia Raulerson, Varaylas Smith, Emma Sparks, Bri Stuart, Max Legendary Wells.

The second celebration in 2024 will be a presentation of stories, songs, folk dance, art, and food from the Philippines.

THE MOURNERS, a play about an estranged family coming together during Hurricane Maria after a tragic suicide, written during the pandemic, was inspired loosely by true events: the playwright's loss of her sister to suicide in 2017, compounded six months later by Hurricane Maria hitting family in Puerto Rico.

STRAIGHT WHITE MEN explores identity, privilege, and masculinity in contemporary America as three brothers, Matt, Jake, and Drew, reunite with their father, Ed, for Christmas. Guided by the 'Persons in Charge,' the audience gains a new perspective on heterosexual males.

With a tagline of EmpowerHER. InspirHER. AmplifiHER., the festival gives women a safe and inclusive place to tell their stories and inspire audiences worldwide. This year, the festival will feature live-in-theatre 10-minute self-produced productions, three live-in-theatre 60-minute performances selected and produced by Powerstories, and 60-minute digital submissions.

The show is directed by Orlando Pena, the artistic director of Ovations Dance Academy, who has over 30 years of experience in the dance industry. Pena says that he chose this musical because he loves the story, the characters, and the message of the show.
