This was a children’s book loved by generations: Mira Lobe’s Das Städtchen Drumherum affectionately and magnanimously focuses on the concept of conflict resolution that works out in everybody’s best interests in the end – but especially for the environment. Timeless, cheerful and nevertheless with an unassuming seriousness, the story points out a solution for dealing with stubborn technocrats and mindless expansion. Elisabeth Naske, who set Mira Lobe’s Die Omama im Apfelbaum to music for the A1 children’s opera tent in 2007, could once again be engaged for this work commissioned by the Wiener Staatsoper. She will compose this new children’s opera on the basis of the libretto by Johanna von der Deken.
