act I
Feierabend in an American camp of miners. Nick, the bartender opens the serving, the workers return from their day's work and wait for Minnie, the boss of the pub and also the only woman in the camp. They pass the time with whiskey, cards and brawls. To distract, Nick does a song from the distant home play, Larkens believes it is no longer homesick and the miners raise money to allow him to return home. The self-proclaimed Sheriff Jack Rance, who is behind Minnie ago, prides himself above all that Minnie will soon be his wife; also he is in dispute with Sonora, who is also deeply in love with Minnie. In the middle of this fight hits a Minnie and has all in their place. It operates not only the economy, but tries to give the rough guys in the winter school and, with a Bible class for some quiet reflection and solitude. Ashby, the director of a transport company visited the camp. He is looking for a bandit named Ramerrez, which makes uncertain the area for some time. The post arrives and by a despatch Ashby is informed by a woman dubious about the supposed whereabouts of Ramerrez. When Jack is with Minnie alone, he tries to win her love by offering her a lot of money. Brusquely she dismisses him by telling him about the poor, but happy life and the love of their parents. As a stranger enters the heavily guarded camp, Jack begins to suspect calls the workers together and incites them against the unknown. But Minnie vouches for the stranger who claims to be a Mister Johnson from Sacramento. Minnie and he remember an earlier encounter. With a little waltz of the unknown is added to the Community. Alarm sounds, the workers hauling Castro, a member of the gang of Ramerrez to bring about. He has come to false information about Ramerrez 'stay to lure all workers from the camp, so his leader (because of unrecognized Dick Johnson is in truth Ramerrez) to give the opportunity to rob the camp. All set out to hunt for Ramerrez, Minnie is left alone with Dick. The burgeoning feelings for Minnie Dick make it impossible for this woman, who is left behind to defend the hidden gold reserves with their lives, to overpower and rob. Before he leaves, they agree to meet for a late dinner in their dwelling on the mountain.

Second Act
In their dwelling itself Minnie prepares to visit Dicks. When he arrives, she tells him trusting of her life, but he conceals his true identity. Both confess their feelings, but the idyll is abruptly interrupted by the visit of Jack and some of the workers. This Minnie clarify about the true identity Johnsons on and warn them of him, the criminals. Disappointed provides Minnie thickness to account, he tried to defend himself: he was not voluntarily become Bandit, but he has had to take over his gang of robbers after the death of his father. But the meeting with Minnie had shown him the way for a new life. When he realizes how deep Minnie is hit by his breach of trust, he tries to leave, but as soon as the outside, the ball Jacks, who waylaid him hits him. Minnie's love awakens again, it opens the door for him and hides the wounded. However, a few drops of blood reveal the returning sheriff who wants to violently lay hands on Minnie, his hiding place. Since Minnie begins to fight for the life of Dick. A game of poker is to decide on her and Johnson's fate. Should he win, she wants to surrender to him and deliver him Johnson, they should win, the Beloved was hers alone. After she has Jack taken his word of honor, she wins the game with false cards.

act Three
Jack has broken his word of honor opposite Minnie and will do everything to catch Dick. At break of day the persecution starts, but Dick seems at first to escape. But eventually succeeds Ashby to take it. Jack wants with his rival quickly make short work, he rushes to the crowd, and even Dick will put the noose around his neck. However, the execution stops, can be heard as Minnie's call. It uses the general surprise and stands protectively in front of her lover. Gradually, she manages to bring the hatred and bloodlust of the men to dry up and to persuade them to pardon her lover. Minnie and Dick make upon themselves to start a new life elsewhere.
