1 Act
Isolated, plagued by death longings, the aging Faust cursed all that, what he had previously ignored: luck, patience, faith, knowledge, fame and love. But each time, if he puts on the lips the Gifttrank with which he wants to put an end to his life, he is held by the joyful and godly singing of the quantity that penetrates from the outside in the study, suicide. In desperation, Faust finally calls for Satan, who immediately appears to him in the guise of Méphistophélès. For the price of his soul, he promises him "the treasure which contains everything" - the vanished youth. Faust's initial hesitation to accept the Pact, overcomes Méphistophélès, allowing a vision see the beautiful Marguerite fist. Charmed by the wonderful sight, Faust signs the contract and turns into a young man.

2 Act
At a fair, Méphistophélès draws all attention by he impressively sings about the power of money in the song of the golden calf.
