Washington Pavilion Offers WIZARD OF OZ Programs and Events The beauty and wonder of "The Wizard of Oz" is coming to the Washington Pavilion through special, themed programming and events from January 16-25. Programs include a Broadway touring musical, art displays, family story time, science workshops and art studios that will feature a "Wizard of Oz" connection.

"There are so many fun and interesting ways to experience this beloved book and film at the Pavilion," said Rose Ann Hofland, Director of Education and Programming. "We have a variety of events for the whole family to experience. Kids can learn to work with oil pastels and watercolor doing Rainbow Resist art in the Raven's Children's Studio at the Visual Arts Center (VAC). Also, if they want to understand exactly what happened to Dorothy, families can join us for our Twisted Weather hands-on workshops in the Kirby Science Discovery Center (KSDC)," Hofland added.

In addition to the programs, the Visual Arts Center has developed a "Wizard of Oz" display in its Entrance Gallery centered around the Emerald City, with detailed Ruby Slippers and illustrations from a copy of the first edition "The Wizard of Oz" book. Also, explore Judy Garland's legacy in the "After the Rainbow", a video artwork by the Australian art collective Soda_Jerk, in the Corner Gallery.

These museum programs and events are included in a Washington Pavilion membership. Regular KSDC and VAC admission rates apply for non-members.

A final experience includes THE WIZARD OF OZ musical taking the Mary W. Sommervold Hall stage on January 24 and 25 at 7:30 p.m. The Broadway touring production offers special effects, dancing and classic songs. Additionally, Leonardo's Café will be offering themed pre-show dining along with special cocktails.
