Hurricane Diane

New York Theatre Workshop (NYTW) and WP Theater are announce that Hurricane Diane, the first co-production of a two-play collaboration, will run for an additional two weeks. Originally scheduled to play its final performance on March 10, 2019, Hurricane Diane will now play additional performances through Sunday March 24, 2019.

Written by Pulitzer Prize finalist Madeleine George (The (curious case of the) Watson Intelligence) and directed by Tony Award nominee, two-time Obie Award winner and NYTW Usual Suspect Leigh Silverman (Violet), Hurricane Diane began previews on Thursday, February 7, 2019, and opened Sunday, February 24 at New York Theatre Workshop (79 E. 4th Street New York, NY 10003). The second co-production will take place at WP Theater with details to be announced at a later date.

The cast for Hurricane Diane includes Mia Barron (The Wolves), Michelle Beck (A Raisin in the Sun), Becca Blackwell (They, Themself and Schmerm), Danielle Skraastad (All My Sons), and Kate Wetherhead (The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee).

Hurricane Diane features scenic design by Rachel Hauck (What the Constitution Means to Me, Bright Half Life), costume design byKaye Voyce (Hamlet, Ironbound), lighting design by Barbara Samuels (Dance Nation, Hatef**k), sound design by Bray Poor (Othello),original music by The Bengsons (Hundred Days; Sundown, Yellow Moon), and choreography by Raja Feather Kelly (The House That Will Not Stand). Melanie J. Lisby (Pacific Overtures) serves as Stage Manager.

Meet Diane, a permaculture gardener dripping with butch charm. She's got supernatural abilities owing to her true identity-the Greek god Dionysus-and she's returned to the modern world to gather mortal followers and restore the Earth to its natural state. Where better to begin than with four housewives in a suburban New Jersey cul-de-sac? Pulitzer Prize finalist Madeleine George pens a hilarious evisceration of the blind eye we all turn to climate change and the bacchanalian catharsis that awaits us, even in our own backyards. Tony nominee and NYTW Usual Suspect Leigh Silverman directs.

Single tickets for the remaining performances of Hurricane Diane start at $65 and vary by performance date and time.

In order to provide access to those in their surrounding community and those with income limitations, NYTW launched CHEAPTIX, an affordable ticket program. A $25 day-of CHEAPTIX RUSH will be available for young people, seniors, artists and Lower East Side residents. Rush tickets are subject to availability and are sold cash-only, limit two per person. Proper identification is required for all rush tickets. Youth (ages 25 and under) and seniors (ages 65+) may present an ID indicating date-of-birth; Artists may present an ID and a program or union card; Lower East Side residents may present an ID that includes your address.
