Verge Theater Announces June Lineup

Did you know Verge Theater is a 12 month theater? That's right! We used to take some time off in the Summer for a deep breath, but we're too excited about theater to think about breathing. Shakespeare once said, "Breathing is overrated; what matters is the play!"*

*quote from Fred Shakespeare, my former free-diving coach.

So in honor of Fred Shakespeare, we are filling the upcoming months with a series of events we call The Flight Of Summer! The Flight will feature the inaugural Montana Playwrights Festival. With a spotlight on the process of creating a play, from concept through production, Verge Theater will host a series of playwrights who will be teaching workshops and reading from their plays. Workshops include Playwriting For Beginners, Theatre For Social Justice, and Freeing Creativity, Achieving Completion. Participation is open to the public, whether you are a beginner or a seasoned writer; everyone will have an opportunity to learn from playwrights, Leah Joki, Pamela Mencher, Greg Owens, Steven Palmer, and C.M. Webb. The festival will feature staged readings of plays in development and works-in-progress, showcasing work from these talented playwrights from around the region. These readings will help both established and emerging playwrights create new work by offering the space to present material before a live audience. The event also offers local audiences the rare chance to watch and participate in the very dynamic playwrighting process firsthand. For more information about how you can be involved in the workshops and readings of this exciting event, please visit vergetheater.com.

Improv On The Verge is back throughout the Summer with special guests!! The Bozeman Improverts will share the stage with students who have graduated through Verge Theater's Improv School. Come join in on the fun and laughter as the grads show off their skills, giving the biggest laughs for the fewest bucks! Guaranteed to be a hilarious start to your week. Popular Improv games are played, in the style of the TV show "Whose Line is it Anyway?", as well as long-form Improv. Everything is created on the spot and based on audience suggestions. Come enjoy Cheap Thrills for your Laugh Hole! Join us at 7PM on Mondays June 18, July 9, July 23, & August 20 for these special shows! Tickets are $7 in advance (vergetheater.com or in person at Cactus Records) or $9 at the door.

And because Improv isn't just for adults, we offer Silly Moose Comedy Improv for the family who likes to laugh together. This Summer we will be opening up the Family Stage for this fun and interactive Improvisation show for kids and parents alike. The kids are encouraged to get crazy, shout suggestions and become a part of the hilarity on stage. Adults can just sit back, enjoy, and watch the mayhem ensue. Just like our Improv on the Verge shows, but with a G rating!! The Silly Moose Improv Show runs on Saturdays at 3PM on June 2 & August 18. Tickets are $7 in advance (vergetheater.com or in person at Cactus Records) or $9 at the door. Children 2 and under are FREE!

On top of all of that, Verge will also be producing Almost, Maine, by John Cariani. Directed by Liam Meyer and Gabe Gilbertson (Graduates of Verge Teen Theater), this production is part of Verge Theater's New Opportunities Workshop. Building a community and getting new people on the stage is a major mission of the theater, so to that point we invited newbies and old hats alike to be involved with this fun production. The New York Times described the play in the following way, "Almost, Maine is a series of nine amiably absurdist vignettes about love, with a touch of good-natured magic realism...witty, romantic, unsentimental. A beautifully structured play, with nifty surprise endings (most but not all of them happy)." In other words, it's the perfect play to introduce would-be actors to the stage, so come and support this fabulous play and those bold actors who have taken on its challenging twists and turns. Almost, Maine will run at 8PM on Fridays and Saturdays, June 15-23. Tickets are $14 in advance (vergetheater.com or in person at Cactus Records) or $16 at the door.
