On Twitter, Lea Michele had this to say @MsLeaMichele:

"Having another one of those beyond thankful moments at work.. When west side story came to bway a few years ago I wanted to do it SO bad! When I didn't get it was so devastated. If someone told me then that a few years later I'd be playing the same part but on a tv show!...I wouldn't have believed it. As cheesy as it is..dreams come true! Thats why never give up & when one door closes a huge window will open."

Lea Michele currently stars in the FOX smash musical series GLEE. At just 8 years old, Lea Michele made her Broadway debut as "Young Cosette" in LES MISERABLES. Since then, Michele has shared the stage with Broadway greats Audra McDonald and Brian Stokes Mitchell in RAGTIME as well as Alfred Molina and the 20th anniversary cast of FIDDLER ON THE ROOF, though she's best known on stage for starring in the Tony Award-winning Broadway production of SPRING AWAKENING.

The role of Maria went to Josefina Scaglione, who opened the show on March 19, 2009 and played her final Tony-nominated performance in WEST SIDE STORY on September 19, 2010 prior to a January 2, 2011 closing.
