Today in 2007, the second Broadway revival of Grease opened at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre, where it ran for 554 performances. Grease is a 1971 musical by Jim Jacobs and WarRen Casey. The musical is named for the 1950s United States working-class youth subculture known as the greasers. The musical, set in 1959 at fictional Rydell High School (loosely based on William Howard Taft School), follows ten working-class teenagers as they navigate the complexities of love, cars, and drive-ins. BROADWAY BARES XXII: HAPPY ENDINGS, a fairytale evening of modern-day burlesque featuring 227 of New York's sexiest dancers, made history for the third year in a row on June 17, by raising a record-breaking $1,254,176 to benefit Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS. One of the evening's performances was the story of "The Ugly Duckling" called "Ugly Duckling (It Gets Better)" set to Lady Gaga's "Born This Way", which took on bullying as Brandon Rubendall helped Adar Wellington embrace both her inner and outer beauty in a moving piece choreographed by Nick Kenkel. Tonight, August 19th at 7pm, has invited some of Broadway's most talented understudies to the stage of the Laurie Beechman Theatre to share their rare talent—the ability to perform at a second's notice.
