Theatre Project Continues Its Spectacular 47th Season

Theatre Project's extraordinary 47th season continues in 2018, featuring a wide array of offerings, ranging from theatre and dance, to opera, puppetry, and variety, featuring Resident Artists, Guest Artists, and other local companies.

Rapid Lemon Productions, known for their short play series The Variations Project, will present Love is a Blue Tick Hound, a collection of four one-acts by Audrey Cefaly, as part of the 2018 Women's Voices Theater Festival. They will be back in May with Palindrome, a world premiere of two one-acts about Thelonius Monk & Marvin Gaye.

Iron Crow Theatre's season continues its 2017/18 season with Cloud 9, by Caryl Churchill, opening January 26. A comedy of manners that spans centuries, Cloud 9 is a smart, satirical look at gender politics and sexual oppression across the ages. Other Iron Crow productions will include Corpus Christi, opening April 6 - 15, and The Laramie Project, June 15 - 24.

Peabody Chamber Opera returns in February with Out of Darkness: Two Remain, an opera based in part on the true stories of two Holocaust survivors: Polish dissident Krystyna Zywulska and the gay German Jew, Gad Beck.

The all-male repertory dance company 10 Hairy Legs will make its Baltimore debut, in February with Exploring the Artistry of the Male Dancer.

Also in February, London-based Single Shoe Productions, returns to the U.S. with their brand new devised show, A Disappearing Act. The great magician, Philip Winterbottom, cordially requests your presence for his final act. Sadly, he's dead. So... he won't be there. But, he's left his son and assistant very clear instructions for his memorial.

Happenstance Theater is back in March with an exclusive, limited run of a brand new show, SLAPSTCK JUKEBOX. Noted for their physical comedy and precise ensemble work, the company recasts free-standing material from their repertoire along with new works informed by great comedy of the past: 19th Century European Circus entrées, Vaudeville, silent film, and early television. A playful new format will structure the material and enhance the audience experience. It will be fun for the whole family!

Baltimore based, award-winning performance artist Naoko Maeshiba, has collaborated with Rohaizad Suaidi with a brand new work entitled da da da Pas de Duex, which will premiere in March.

I Killed my Mother, by Romanian playwright András Visky, is an empowering coming of age story that follows Bernadette, fierce, bi-racial orphan girl, as she conjures love, purpose, and hope from a barren landscape. This harrowing, hyper-poetic play explores how the most vulnerable need to become the most resilient.

Vincent E. Thomas/VT Dance presents In the Company of Men ... Part III, an incredible evening of dance art embracing themes of masculinity, life, love, social awareness, and human-ness.

For April, The Collective has created a welcoming environment for experiencing dance as an every body experience through their newest creation and premier of SENSES.

The Jim Henson Foundation Grant awarded company Alex and Olmsted present the World Premiere of Homebodies, a new show that explodes the concepts of house and home. Centered around a 30 cubic inch puzzle box that has trick doors and amenities, Alex and Olmsted combine physical comedy and puppetry to unlock the house of the imagination.

In May, New York company Great Small Works is here with Muntergang and Other Cheerful Downfalls, which revisits the work of radical 20th-century New York City puppeteers Zuni Maud and Yosl Cutler. In a bilingual Yiddish-English play that uses Maud and Cutler's satirical puppet scripts and original graphics, together with Great Small Works' own puppets and projections, as well as The Dybbuk and Mae West, Muntergang is a meditation on historical models for changing power relationships.

Other local artists in 2018 include BlueShift Dance presenting Drawing the Universe, their collaborative dance concert with Lucid Beings Dance, Sylvana Christopher, and BIDA (Baltimore Independent Dance Artists.) The Charm City Fringe Festival comes back to Theatre Project with Nights on the Fringe, featuring Puppetry, Circus Arts, Theatre, Acrobats, music and more. Trajectory Dance Project will present their annual concert in May, and the Charm City Kitty Club continues its 15th anniversary with another raucous variety show.
