The Palm Canyon Theatre And PS Gay Men's Chorus Join Forces For SOME ENCHANTED EVENING In The Desert

The Palm Springs Gay Men's Chorus (PSGMC) and Palm Canyon Theatre (PCT) join theatrical forces on Sunday, September 30 at 7:00 p.m. as they bring an enchanted evening of "The Best Of Rodgers And Hammerstein" to the desert to benefit both organizations. This cast for includes two-time Emmy® nominated actress and singer Bobbie Eakes along with the vocal talents of desert favorites Theresa Jewett, Charles Herrera, and Keisha D, who will perform numbers written and composed by Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein. Members of the Palm Canyon Theatre Company will sing selections from Oklahoma! the Palm Springs Gay Men's Chorus will present "There is Nothing Like a Dame" from South Pacific, "We Kiss in a Shadow" from The King and I and "Boys and Girls Like You and Me" from State Fair. The concert will be followed by a reception under the stars.

A former Miss Georgia, Bobbie Eakes is a two time Emmy® nominated actress and double platinum recording artist in Europe. Bobbie created the role of Macy on The Bold and The Beautiful thus adding to her numerous credits in primetime TV on shows like Cheers, Full House, The Wonder Years and JAG. In 2003, she moved to New York to portray Krystal on All My Children. This role won her two Emmy® nominations for Lead Actress. While in NY, Bobbie recorded a smooth jazz CD entitled "Something Beautiful" which debuted at number 21 on the Billboard® Smooth Jazz charts. Bobbie enjoys hosting a radio show "Pop City" on iHub Radio with friend and colleague Melissa Neiderman. Bobbie and her husband of 26 years, actor and writer David Steen, reside full-time here in Palm Springs.

The Palm Canyon Theatre is a non-profit, 501©3 organization dedicated to the education of live stage production and the enrichment of the greater Palm Springs community and its visitors. The regional repertory theater company operates primarily with volunteers and produces about 13 Broadway musicals and classic plays each year, plus offers a children's theatre camp and production. The theatre opened its doors in 1997 when Dr. William "Bill" Layne and his family renovated the historic Frances S. Stevens School located at the corner of Palm Canyon Drive and Alejo Road in Palm Springs, CA.

Since 1999, the Palm Springs Gay Men's Chorus (PSGMC), a 501©3 has given back to its community through Gay/Straight Alliance anti-bullying grants for the Palm Springs and Desert Sands Unified School Districts. Additionally, the chorus performs regularly for a variety of large-scale and community events including: Andy Warhol exhibit at Palm Springs Art Museum, La Quinta Arts Festival, Indio Woman's Club, Cathedral City LGBT Days, Halloween Palm Springs, Harvey Milk Diversity Breakfast, Sunday Sounds at Palm Desert Community Center and this summer sang in a joint concert with the Tucson and Phoenix choruses with over 300 voices on stage. In November 2016, Greater Palm Springs Pride recognized PSGMC as Organization of the Year. In 2018, Mayor Robert Moon gave the Chorus the recognition, as the Official Gay Men's Chorus of the City of Palm Springs and April 8 was declared Palm Springs Gay Men's Chorus Day. The PSGMC is under the Artistic Direction of Douglas Wilson with Principal Accompanist Joel Baker.
