The Adelphi Orchestra, now in its 64th season of Music for All, presents "Power and Majesty" with works by Brahms, Rachmaninoff, and Faure under the baton of AO Artistic Director Jason Tramm on Sunday, January 28th at 2PM, at the Pascack Valley Regional High School Auditorium.
Underscoring the Adelphi Orchestra's long-standing young artist initiative the concert will feature Oradell native piano prodigy Drew Petersen winner of the 2017 American Pianist Award, in Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 2. The concert program will also showcase The Pascack Valley Choir, under the direction Argine Safari, whose honors include NJ Teacher of the year.
Artists
Prodigious pianist Drew Petersen is the winner of the 2017 American Pianists Awards and the Christel DeHaan Fellowship of the American Pianists Association and has been named Artist-in-Residence for two years by the University of Indianapolis.
This is the latest accolade in a decorated young career that includes being the prizewinner in the Leeds International Piano Competition, the Hilton Head International Piano Competition, Kosciuszko Foundation Chopin Competition and the New York Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition.
Born in New Jersey in 1993, Drew Petersen's career had an auspicious and early beginning-he was presented at Carnegie Hall's Weill Recital Hall at age 5 and by age 9 performed a solo recital at Steinway Hall in Manhattan for the company's 150th Anniversary. His prodigious intellect and insatiable curiosity led him to win a Davidson Fellow Award for the profoundly gifted at age 12 and graduating cum laude from Harvard at 19 with a Bachelor of Liberal Arts in Social Sciences. He completed both his undergraduate and graduate music studies at The Juilliard School, where he was recently accepted into the prestigious Artist Diploma program.
Drew's unique gifts have been profiled in The New York Times, New York Magazine, the documentary "just normal" by award-winning Director Kim A. Snyder, and Andrew Solomon's book, "Far From the Tree."
Hailed as a "Conductor to Watch" by Symphony Magazine and as "filled with Italianate passion" by the Huffington Post, Jason C. Tramm's work in the choral, symphonic and operatic realms have received critical acclaim throughout the United States and abroad. This season marks his third as Artistic Advisor/Conductor of the Adelphi Chamber Orchestra.
Maestro Tramm serves as Artistic Director and Principal Conductor with the MidAtlantic Opera with whom he made his Carnegie Hall (Stern Auditorium) debut in 2015. The program, entitled "A Prayer for Peace," featured works of Bernstein, Vaughan Williams, and Saygun. The second concert of this critically acclaimed series took place on October 27, 2017 at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center, and featured works of Vasks, Schoenberg and Beethoven's Symphony No. 9 with Metropolitan Opera baritone, Mark Delavan. He also serves as Music Director of Teatro Lirico D'Europa, a touring professional opera company. Upcoming tour repertoire includes fully staged performances of Madama Butterfly, Rigoletto, Tosca, Barbiere di Siviglia, and Aida. Performances will take place in Florida, New York, Pennsylvania, Boston, Baltimore and South Carolina. He is also the Principal Guest Conductor of both the Palmetto Opera (Columbia, SC) and Opera New Hampshire (Manchester, NH). He served as Artistic Director of the New Jersey State Opera from 2008 to 2012, where he collaborated with some of the finest voices in opera, including Samuel Ramey, Vladimir Galouzine, Angela Brown, Gregg Baker, and Paul Plishka. His 2009 HDTV broadcast with PBS affiliate NJN of "Verdi Requiem: Live from Ocean Grove," garnered an Emmy Award nomination.
The busy maestro is preparing for his 12th season as Director of Music, in Residence, of the Ocean Grove Camp Meeting Association in the summer months, where he leads the choral, orchestral, and oratorio performances in the historic 6,500-seat Great Auditorium. In addition to the Ocean Grove Choir Festival, a beloved event in its 63rd year and attended by thousands, he has appeared on two National Public Radio broadcasts with organ virtuoso Gordon Turk and symphonic orchestra. He also is the Music Director of the Morris Choral Society (Morristown, NJ), with whom he will conduct Faure's Requiem on May 12, 2017.
An accomplished educator, he serves as Director of Choral Activities at Seton Hall University where he leads the University Chorus, Chamber Choir, Orchestra, and teaches voice and conducting. In 2017 Seton Hall University Awarded him the University Faculty Teacher of the Year. Education and working with young musicians have always been a central part of Jason Tramm's career. He is also actively sought as a clinician and regularly presents lectures.
Mr. Tramm holds degrees in music from the Crane School, the Hartt School, and a DMA in Conducting from Rutgers University, where he was the recipient of their prestigious Presidential Fellowship. In 2003, he joined the ranks of Metropolitan Opera Stars Renee Fleming and Stephanie Blythe when he was honored with the Rising Star Award from the SUNY Potsdam Alumni Association.
A frequent guest conductor, he has led operatic and symphonic performances in Italy, Romania, Albania, and most recently, in Hungary, where he recorded an album of rarely heard French operatic arias with the Szeged Symphony. This past summer he was a Guest Conductor on the Narnia Festival (Narni, Italy), where he led performances of Puccini's Gianni Schicchi and Suor Angelica, Pergolesi's Stabat Mater and a program or arias and ensembles.

The Adelphi Orchestra is a professional, non-profit orchestra performing symphonic, chamber, operatic and dance concerts.
