Texas Wesleyan will introduce new BFA theatre program beginning fall 2019

Beginning fall 2019, Texas Wesleyan University's theatre department will introduce a new Bachelor of Fine Arts program, in addition to a re-conceived Bachelor of Arts program. The department remains one of the longest-running producing theatres in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, celebrating over 65 years, training theatre artists in all areas of production.

Theatre Wesleyan will offer both a Bachelor of Arts (BA) and a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) degree program. The BFA program will have three specialized emphasis tracks as options for students in Design & Technology, Acting, or Musical Theatre. The department will also continue to offer a minor in theatre. All of the degree programs are set within the framework for a liberal arts education as part of Texas Wesleyan's School of Arts and Letters.

With new degree program options, Theatre Wesleyan will continue to thrive on giving students individual attention and unlimited opportunities to be a part of the production process for mainstage and studio-style productions. Theatre Wesleyan will continue their current season with Smokefall by Noah Haidle, opening February 14 and directed by senior theatre major Kimberly Owen, and the 65th annual musical, Avenue Q, opening April 25. The 2019-2020 season will be announced at a later date.

Throughout the year, prospective students interested in pursuing a theatre degree program at Texas Wesleyan University are given the opportunity to schedule a visit day experience. These visit days are scheduled in advance and occur weekly, allowing prospectives to spend a day as a Theatre Wesleyan student. Activities include sitting in on select theatre courses, touring the theatre facilities and Wesleyan campus, having lunch with current students, and the chance to earn a potential theatre scholarship by interviewing or auditioning with theatre faculty.

Because scholarships are limited, priority consideration is given to those who audition or interview early and meet all requirements to be accepted to Texas Wesleyan University. For students interested in enrolling at Texas Wesleyan beginning fall 2019, theatre visit day opportunity dates for January-May 2019 are now available for scheduling.

Example degree plans for each of the programs are available at the following links. The four-year degree plans are geared toward incoming first-year freshmen, while the two-year degree plans are more suitable for transfer students or students with associated degrees.
