THE CURIOUS INCIDENT OF THE DOG IN THE NIGHT-TIME Comes to Mixed Blood Theatre Next Month

Christopher Boone, a young man on the autism spectrum, sets out to investigate the bizarre death of a neighbor's dog, setting into motion a series of events that expose far greater mysteries. As the clues fall into place, they reveal a community of disparate characters, a family with secrets, and a gifted mind in complicated relationship with the world.

THE CURIOUS INCIDENT OF THE DOG IN THE NIGHT-TIME won the Tony Award for Best Play in 2015 as well as Olivier Awards, Drama Desk Awards, Outer Critics Circle Awards, and Drama League Awards. The production marks Mixed Blood's fifth play about autism in a decade, preceded by VESTIBULAR SENSE, ON THE SPECTRUM, THEORY OF MIND, and ORANGE.

Mixed Blood represents autism as a difference, as opposed to a disorder. In Mixed Blood's approach to the play, the audience will see the world through the protagonist's eyes embracing the unique advantages of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) as well its challenges.

According to Mixed Blood's artistic director, Jack Reuler, who will be directing the production, "This play represents an intersection of Mixed Blood's passions-the truthful portrayal of disability and the celebration of play-making. An ensemble of actors plays many characters, both real and imagined; all theatrical devices are in clear view in our intimate theatre space-it's both entertaining and artful."

The cast includes Regan Linton, Lipica Shah, MacGregor Arney, Miriam Laube, Bruce A. Young, Raúl Ramos, Tom Reed, and Zack Myers. The production design team showcases the talents of Joe Stanley (scenic), Karin Olson (lights), Abbee Warmboe (props), Kathy Maxwell (media), and Sara Ryung Clement (costumes).

Mixed Blood seeks to be the theatrical destination for people with disabilities. For almost 20 years the theatre has been immersed in programming, services, and facilities to realize that ambition. Its production of THE CURIOUS INCIDENT OF THE DOG IN THE NIGHT-TIME features theatre artists with disabilities in its cast and creative team. As with all Mixed Blood performances, patrons with disabilities are eligible for free advanced reservations and free transportation to and from the Theatre. All performances are equipped with supertitles for those with hearing loss; for persons with low vision or who are blind, audio description is available. Lobby, auditorium, and restrooms are fully accessible. Wheelchair users may watch from throughout the auditorium.
