SummerStage, a program of City Parks Foundation, presents performances of outstanding artistic quality, free of charge, to serve the diverse communities of New York City.

The artists represent a breadth of genres and cultures and perform in an outdoor setting accessible to people of all ages and backgrounds. SummerStage strives to develop audiences' deepening appreciation for contemporary, traditional, and emerging artists as well as the communities in which these artists originate.

Coming up later this month, a panel discussiom about dancer and choreographer Martha Graham followed by a performance by the Martha Graham Dance Company.

SummerStage presents Forewords, a panel discussion series co-curated with The Strand Bookstore. Forewords is a great way to help support SummerStage's free programming and to get an inside look into the minds of the artists you love. Tickets to Forewords are available on a first come, first served basis at the Central Park Rumsey Playfield location on the day of the show at our guest and press check-in table. Please arrive to buy tickets approximately one half hour prior to the scheduled start time; advance ticket purchases not necessary or available. All panel discussions will take place in the pergola area. Ticket price covers admittance to the panel and a reserved seat in the bleacher area for the artist pertinent performance to follow. Tickets to this Forewords will include bleacher seats to the Martha Graham Company show following.

Informed by the expansive vision of pioneering choreographer Martha Graham,T he Martha Graham Dance Company brings to life a timeless and uniquely American style of dance that has influenced generations of artists and continues to captivate audiences. As one of the most celebrated modern dance companies in America, Graham and her dancers have expanded contemporary dance's vocabulary of movement and forever altered the scope of the art form. The Martha Graham Dance Company has been a leader in the development of contemporary dance, and is recognized for its model audience engagement activities. The company has received international acclaim from audiences in over 50 countries throughout North and South America, Europe, Africa, Asia, and the Middle East, and has performed at most of the major venues of the world. In addition, the Company has produced several award-winning films broadcast on PBS.

Dancin' Downtown at The Joyce is collaboration between Dancers Responding to AIDS (DRA) and The Joyce Theatre. Dance studios are adjudicated by top names in the dance world with the award winner performing at SummerStage. http://www.dradance.org
