Sign Language Interpreter Alan Champion Dies at 55
According to the NY times, Broadway sign language interpreter Alan Champion passed away from appendix canacer on April 22 in Ramona, Oklahoma. He was 55 years old.
Throughout his lengthy career, Champion interpreted such Broadway productions as: Next to Normal; Wicked; Shrek: The Musical; The Lion King; The Little Mermaid; Mary Poppins; Legally Blonde; A Chorus Line (revival); Monty Python's Spamalot; Tarzan; Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas!; Beauty and the Beast; Jersey Boys; Hairspray; The Producers; Gypsy; Avenue Q; 42nd Street (revival); Noises Off; Rent; The Phantom of the Opera; Aspects of Love; The Grapes of Wrath; Les Miserables (original); Sunday in the Park with George (original); 42nd Street (original); A Chorus Line (original); The Elephant Man (original) and Off-Broadway for Driving Miss Daisy.
Champion is survived by his sister Alice and brothers, Harold and Jerry.
