Shakespeare In Clark Park To Return With Reimagined HAMLET
Created in collaboration with Revolution Shakespeare, performances will run July 29-August 2.
Shakespeare in Clark Park (SCP) returns for its 21st season with a daring new production of Hamlet. This inventive reimagining features four professional actors rotating through the title role, alongside a vibrant community ensemble, in a production that is as playful as it is profound.
Created in collaboration with Revolution Shakespeare, this actor-driven adaptation is conceived by Revolution Shakespeare’s Artistic Director Tai Verley alongside Barrymore-nominated performer and acclaimed Shakespeare artist Cassandra Alexander, who will also perform. Directed by SCP Producing Artistic Director Shamus, the production foregrounds transformation, theatricality, and the thrilling immediacy of live performance, with actors shifting roles and perspectives in real time.
This streamlined, four-person Hamlet distills Shakespeare’s epic into a fast-moving, imaginative staging that invites audiences into the heart of the story. By blending professional artistry with community participation, SCP continues its commitment to creating work that is both accessible and deeply rooted in the people of Philadelphia.
Welcoming more than 4,000 audience members annually, SCP continues its mission of bringing free, high-quality theatre to Philadelphia audiences gathering across generations for a shared cultural experience. Building on the momentum of a recent Barrymore Award-winning season, this year’s Hamlet expands the reach of SCP’s work.
As the United States approaches its 250th anniversary, SCP anticipates even larger audiences seeking connection, celebration, and meaningful cultural experiences in shared public spaces. This year’s production reflects that moment, an opportunity to gather, reflect, and engage with one of Shakespeare’s most enduring works in a fresh and immediate way.
Performances run July 29–August 2 in the Bowl of Clark Park, with additional touring performances across the region beginning the week prior. All performances are free and open to the public. Donations will be accepted. More information can be found at the Shakespeare In Clark Park website.
